Having seen Roy run the 62 Plymouth he mentions at a local track all the way through his dominance of PS he has always remained the most down to earth person you can imagine. Several years ago I talked to him at Seattle and told him I had the W2 motor that Allen won his first IHRA Super Stock race with in Roy’s Challenger. He called Allen over and the stories he told about that race were amazing in the detail and who he ran. So many racers with championships on their resumes change (listen to driver interviews, I won’t mention names) but not the Johnsons. A true legend. The supposed reason for the 10,500 rpm rule was valve springs but there was no mistaking who it was aimed at. I have NEVER been a JEGS fan (their sale to a private equity firm and subsequently the Chinese junk they carry is just another case in point. The Jeggie/Erica debacle with Neons is another instance where the brilliance of Roy and driving of Allen was overshadowed by all the games the PS crowd play.

Cool interview, recommend watching the whole thing.

A great guy !!! back in 2014 my friend was driving my Dart in 11.50 Index at the dearly departed Raceway Park (Englishtown ).. being the Points leader in the Class we got invited to run as part of an " Exhibition " during the Toyota Summernationals . We got called out for a time shot and Pro Stock was running right before us. There was some sort of problem on the track resulting in some downtime .. Roy walked back , looked at my Dart and was genuinely interested in it asking some questions about the combination ! Wow ! todays IROC / Pro Stock ( same cars just different colors ) Class could use more people like him !!!.. I lost interest in the class when they no longer ran .

Great interview, I feel like it was taken out from a live stream from 6-12 months ago. Whilst it would be great if Mopar were still in Pro Stock, they wanted to put their money in behind the Nitro classes. It was interesting to hear that Roy had started working a new head for the new rules, but because of Mopar pulling out, it never came to fruition.
