Am I correct in thinking the 489 pinion can be either 10 or 27 spline? Thanks!

good question i don't have the answer to. however, i have seen the 741 and 742 pinions with both spline counts, so i guess the 489 pinion could have both. i'm guessing year of [original] manufacturing may be the reason for the spline count used in the original gear set ? hopefully, someone with more knowledge than i possess will chime in and have the correct answer.

Am I correct in thinking the 489 pinion can be either 10 or 27 spline? Either 10 or 29. The 10-spline will have 3/4" threads and the 29-spline will have 7/8" threads.

Thanks guys! I have a 5.38 gearset for my Valiant. Now I know exactly what I need for setting them up. That pinion is like the girl from West Va very few teeth They have summer teeth, some are here, some are there. How do you know the tooth brush was invented in WV? Anywhere else and it would have been called a teeth brush.
