Checking experience using this joint instead of a slip joint, mild racing with 413, 9” tire, 3800 vert, 3400 pounds.
I know I could use later trans but would like to keep the cable.

1965 727 pushbutton should have the later better style U joint, not on the 4 speed cars in 1965 though. They kept the ball and trunnion shafts with NP833 early style output shaft and 4 bolt tranny style front U joints shruggy

Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)

If your ball and trunion shaft is in good shape you won't have an issue. Now a days there are many OEM shaft that bolt on in the same manner. So upgrades are available. Swapping from the 62-64 tailhousing and output shaft to 65 parts will allow you to run a standard style drive shaft. Though there is a raised area just ahead of the output splines on a 65 shaft. The later yoke needs to be shortened about 5/16".

when you say the later yoke needs shortened, is that the factory style with the [approximately 1" of missing splines at the front], or the shorter aftermarket style with the yoke having all splines, or both ?

Can't sat which yokes. I just test fit them. A 10" cut off wheel in a miter saw is slow but cuts them with no issue. you can see the rib im talking about.

Doug.

That rib is to keep the o-ring (a ribbed affair about an inch long) in the slip joint so trans fluid won’t run back out the splines. All the slip joints I have are smooth in the front half, no splines. If that trunion will hold up to a 600 inch Hemi I’ll use that trans in the 64.
