Okay kids and kiddies, I have a nifty story I can share. A couple of months back, I was cruising through FB and came across a Mopar-related post that I thought might be a good one to expand the knowledge base. A guy was looking for a more authoritative decode on the fender tag of his blue 71 Charger. He included a picture of the fender tag, which happened to be the same color blue (B5) as a 71 R/T that a friend's brother owned from new. One of the more knowledgeable guys broke it down- Charger R/T, 440 auto, ps/pb, B5 with B5 interior, black vinyl roof, 14" road wheels (Magnum 500 style). Same combo as the one my friend's brother owned. Hmmm. So, I asked the owner if the car had spent any time in my area. The answer was yes, he actually bought it in the city where I live. Hmmm. Now, there was one particular detail about the car from my youth that had stuck with me. It was a drum brake car. So, I asked the car being decoded was a drum brake car. The answer was yes. So, I said I was about 95% certain that my friend's brother owned this car from new, for about 4 years.
Now, the owner of the Charger, it turns out, was wanting a proper decode of the fender tag for resale documentation. I offered to get in touch with the guy who may have been the original owner, just to see if he might have any documents from when the car was new. Knowing the original owner, this wasn't out of the question. So, the two talked, and it turns out there were other details that locked in the fact that the restored 71 Charger R/T I tripped over in a fender tag post was actually the car owned by my friend's brother.
And, it gets better. The original owner now owns the Charger again. I think that's pretty cool.

Always love to hear these stories. I know it's a cheby but the guy that owns Papa Johns pizza had a similar story about the camaro he used to own(sold it to start Papa Johns).

Cool, cool story! I love to hear when original owners are able to reunite with their cars! This one was especially interesting for me as the owner of a B5 '71 R/T as well! (I also had a B5 '71 non-R/T back in my high school days) I think we all need to see some pictures of that beautiful car if you could share them!

The most recent owner added the Rally's and the front spoiler when he did the resto.
