Well, I'm considering running a hydraulic flat tappet in the 360/380 Magnum crate engine I bought. WHY? Because nobody seems to have cam cores left. 20-614-9 Comp Cam- Delivery mid May so I phoned. Not mid May. No cam cores. Were supposed to be delivered March 13th, never showed. Howards 711915 or 770055-12? No cam cores. No idea when Lunati 20200715? Nope Hughes 0814ALN-10 said they don't have cam cores and don't know if they will come in 3 weeks or 6 months.
Welllllllll?? I have a brand new 268H Comp I have on the shelf that I could run until cam cores appear magically. 6 months or a year, wouldn't matter. Lifters (would a regular lifter put enough oil out the top for the rocker tip?) (Or Jeep application) could be sourced. Only other issue would be pushrods, and Edelbrock 9656 are 7.625/7.63 inches long, they say oiling YES and they are in stock. MoPar conversion pushrods P5007477 were 7.625 and same diameter. Can I run the LA hydraulic flat tappet in the Magnum engine? Anybody done it??
I have the engine still assembled, if necessary I could have a really crappy running 035 @ .050 highway geared slug until cams came in, but if I could run the flat tappet until then I would.

Can be done, never did hyd flat but many solid flat tappet yes they need to oil thru the pushrod. Most I did were Hughes, lifters and pushrods. Some heads will need to be clearanced were the pushrod goes thru the head on the back side of the intake mounting surface because the lifter is shorter. Can’t remember if it was more so with the factory head or the EQ. Because of rules I had to run factory rockers, rollers could be different. Pretty sure Hughes had pushrods made up that are in his catalog to make this work, I know they weren’t custom, matter of fact I usually ran his adjustable pushrods for lash adjustment, I did some roller hyd regrind cams where the base circle was smaller and I ran the thin (.029”) ? head gaskets so the factory pushrods worked. This was afew years ago so I’m shooting off the hip, pushrod clearance is a little foggy, pretty sure it was the back side of the intake rail, we did try all kinds of different rockers to try to make everything work better (geometry) ended up the factory ones worked good. Awesome info. Thanks!!!!!!!

They list for flat tappet solid cams- HUG 5268 which are 7.650" long They list for flat tappet hydraulic cams- HUG 5266 which are 7.550" long Both oil through pushrod.
Mopar # was 5007477 which was 7.625" long
If they have the HUG 5266 in stock I'll be good.

I had a stock magnum can reground years ago. It had enough meat on it to go 224/230@ .050" with .499"/.501" lift.
Call around and see if you can get yours reground... It was $125 when I had it done by cam motion. Mine is a 360/380 crate engine. Probably lots of meat and I want milder. One guy said if it's a steel core he would do it but a cast core he didn't want to touch? Someone thought due to "hardening"?

Lethal Performance has the Voodoo apparently. They want a $100 more than anyone else though.

Onetorun had a cam that hopefully will work very well for me and gave me an awesome deal!!!!!!!!! And yes, turns out I knew him lol Awesome guy, awesome deal!!!!
Ill have the engine buttoned up next weekend- I'm changing colors on the car so I'll paint the engine compartment once I yank the existing small block. And to those running Magnum style small blocks?? I bought the ARP 144-7201 stud conversion kit for the rockers, seem like INCREDIBLE quality. The rocker bolts that came with the 360/380hp crate engine? Not so much!!! Couldn't even do 20 ft lbs on them and one felt weird..... well... it was mush. I sure wouldn't trust them!!!
Thanks Onetorun!!! EXTREMELY appreciated!!!
