Not every town had a big electronics store- but every town did have a Radio Shack. I enjoyed buying their car stereo and home stereo components- when they were on sale.

I know of one Radio Shack still open, the guy bought the inventory of all the stores that were local to him when they closed... up

Anyone remember when they used to write out the receipt by hand and ask for your name and address?
That drove me crazy, one time I answered, " 11, 22, Boogie Boogie Ave" and the guy wrote it down.
I guess they wanted a mailing list.

Not buying it until I see some silver foil tape edging the glass.

I would always try to get a new catalog before they where all out. Things we did before the internet.

Miss that place.

Their drawers and drawers of little electronic pieces and parts saved me more than once when i needed to fix something fast.

I miss them too.

My first car stereo was a Realistic brand from Radio Shack.

Great sound.

You used to see the Radio Shack alarm stickers a fair bit.

Radio Shack closed here in Canukada years ago. Circuit City bought out the Canadian end of it then Bell bought it from Circuit City when they went under. They still had the cool toys and other gizmos but got rid of a lot of the electronics stuff. The closest stores to us have all closed in the last few years.

Funny...
I had a close friend worked at Radio Shack..
Got tired of asking the guys for their home info so he just added some phoney address.
After doing this for a couple of months, since Radio Shack used this info to mail out their catalogs they got many catalogs back with "No such address".. confused
A regional Radio Shack manager came in, confronted him and then fired him...

Just my $0.02... wink

In the 1990s their Optimus home stereo receivers was made by Pioneer. Their Optimus home stereo speakers were made by Yamaha. Regular pricing was too high but when they had a sale is heck of a bargain.

I bought a pair of Radio Shacks bass speakers in the late 70s. They still sounded and work great. I still have them, they are hanging from the ceiling in my garage now.

I probably have a few RS items in my ancient electronics bin. Why didn't I get rid of this crap when it was still worth something? Who knows. I often fall victim to "I might need that someday". Same thing with car parts. realcrazy

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

I do as well but when its smaller items I forget where I put them- end up buying new or replacement parts only to find my hoarded part later!
