Hi,

Looks like I'm in need of the last couple feet of rear frame rail on our 69 coronet. I need something that looks "right". Do the "50-inch" rear frame rail replacement sections that year one and others are selling look correct in regard to holes/contours or should I be searching for a good used framerail? How does the AMD piece compare to the original?

Thanks,
Jeff

I used a set from Autobody specialties. They looked correct when instaled and fit good.

The AMD framerails aren't as sharp and crisp as the originals. Especially the hump over the axle, the dies they use don't seem to punch the metal deep enough and draw it out as well as the originals.

Nothing on the market right now beats a set of factory framerails.

AMD's floorpans and trunkpans are excellent reproductions though.

Thanks for the replies! Good to know about the AMD pans also. I plan on picking up all of them aside from the panel under the rear seat.

So on the rear framerails... having never done a swap there, am I better off swapping the whole rail even if its just the back 2' I have a problem with? Right now the only floor left in the car is the panel under the rear seat area. From what I can see from inside the front and where I can see in the back of the rail, its just the rearmost area that's got issues.

FWIW, looking at this thing more tonight, I don't think I see a way to avoid swapping front rails (shock tower/upper control arm mount rust) and the tbar crossmember. I think I've known this for a few weeks after tearing the car down, but reality is starting to set in... A parts car we have may help w/ the rear rails, but I still need to tear into it further to make sure. It can't help w/ the front rails, so if anyone around the Denver, CO area had a parts car scrap w/ a nice front half, let me know.

Thanks,
Jeff
