Anyone well versed on throwout bearings ?

I have always usually used an Aetna bearing.
I saw a Mcleod on Amazon that seemed reasonable
Its snugger than the Aetna

Its stamped China .
But the diameter is smaller on the bearing surface .
Wwyd ??

The biggest problem with throwout bearings today seems to be in the low quality grease they are filled with. It's just doesn't do the job, and the nature of the design makes it difficult to wash out the cheap grease and refill it with a high quality grease.

The last 18 spline I worked on had the smaller bearing surface and I believe it was from Ram clutches. I went to my local Napa store and bought a bigger bearing and just replaced the bearing. I believe it was a Common Ford bearing. I bought the bearing only.

The "smaller" bearing appears to not have the outer edge metal that the larger bearing has. By the pictures, the surface that rides on the clutch appears to be the same sizes. Have you measured the actual contact surface and know for sure its actually smaller? Are we dealing with an actual surface size difference, or an optical illusion?

I'm sure Mcleod doesn't make them, they have them made and package by a vendor for them like a lot of other hard parts shruggy work

Andy I always thought the smaller bearing was used on the factory style 3 finger plate and the larger bearing was used on the diaphragm style plate. Some companies probably sell the larger bearing as a one fits all so they only need to stock one bearing.

confused shruggy beer ?

There are a bunch of unknown variables that could impact the longevity of either bearing in it's application so it's really a roll of the dice either way twocents
