Anyone know of a Big block composition head gasket that is about .045 Thick? I can find MLS gaskets that thick, but my short block is already together and it wasn't decked for MLS gaskets. I thought ROL used to make some but can find any info on them anymore.

I can find .051 head gaskets, but would like to keep my quench height around .040.

Fel Pro makes a composition head gasket that is right at .042 thick with a 4.440 bore size, maybe Pt # 8917, maybe not confused

I’m curious, why do you need .045 ? Are pistons at 0 , + or - ?
Flat, dish, dome ? Stroker ? Compression ? Heads ?

RB stroker with the normal D-Dish pistons. Piston Height ranges from zero to .005 above deck with the piston rocked to the highest reading as close to the centerline of the piston as I could get with these style pistons. Figured I would stay on the safe side with alittle more clearance then the Normal .039 gaskets.

Sadly ROL is SOL, or maybe more accurately DOA.

If I remember correctly they were bought out and killed off.

I'd have no problem running the .039/.041 gasket, I doubt it will hit .

Use the MLS gaskets and copper coat them. The copper coat will make up for any imperfections in the deck.

Gee, I wonder why the guys that make those gaskets won't tell you that ? They are very adamant that you NOT use their gaskets on the wrong surface !!!

I know the old orange Detroit Gasket composition head gaskets I've used measured about .042" compressed, even though they're spec'd at .038".

Of course they do. I've used them on meticulously machined and prepped surface and they have leaked coolant before so I don't risk it.

This.

I have copper coated Cometics for years. Never worried about finish on the heads and deck.

Even reused them and copper coated the thin pieces. No problems.

You say it wasn't decked for MLS gaskets. Have you put a profilometer on the deck surface? What was the RA?
