Yet the piston retainer is available EVERYPLACE. I'm rebuilding a 46re in a durango, and discovered the edges of my original piston is scuffed. lots of scratches around the edge in the direction of movement/ I already have a new retainer but cannot find a new piston...
Cmon... as many of these trannys are still in use, plus the hot rod market has so many people retrofitting Mopar OD trannys into older vehicles.... if they want to kill off this trans (govt maybe?) could they pick a more obscure part to discontinue???
I found exactly 2 on Ebay... both used. Looking for PN 4431695. may take a couple if I can find. I have other trannys here waiting for their turn on the bench.

Can they be fine sanded to remove the scratches?

Don’t worry about the OD of the OD piston, it pilots off the ID seal bore. With a new piston retainer you are good.

As long as the seal grooves are in good shape those scratches mean nothing.

Ok thanks. Got one coming anyway, a guy on FABO PMd me and has one laying on his shelf collecting dust.
I'm just really surprised at how the piston retainer is so widely available and the piston that mates to it is unobtanium
As many of these are out there why doesn't sonnax or rostra, etc make them available?
