Headrests how do they lift out?

1970 Valiant, 4 Door Front Bench seat. My son wants to make his own seat covers. He actually did a good job on the Rear seat already. He says the Headrests do not lift up and off so he can't do the Covers the way he wants. Is he missing something? I see phillips head screws on the chrome bracket that screwed to the backrest, does that separate these headrests?

There's a clip that catches in the bottom-most notches of the headrest legs/stems/studs/whatever-you-call-them. If the clips have lost their springiness, you'll need to remove the two screws and the bezel to get the headrests out.
Yanking as hard as you can usually results in the clips breaking and falling inside.

They'll still resist the headrest removal, but will not break. I suggest you break out the stubby Phillips head screwdriver, remove the bezels, and lift out the whole shebang.
Here's what the clip looks like from the left (driver's) side. The clip has been slid rearward 1/4" or so in the pic, but you can see how the bend in the clip fits into the notches on the headrest studs:

Drivers side did not want to let go. I dripped a some 3 in 1 oil down the Post, waited about 2 minutes and... There was much rejoycing.
