Some time ago, Gary and the boys at Rocker Arm Specialist (now known as Rocker Arms Unlimited), offered some pretty nice stainless roller tip rockers but due to production/getting materials and other 'reasons' they haven't been offered, but they're back!! Gary told me they're available in 1.6 ratio only. The earlier batches were investment cast but the current ones are now CNC machined. I got my set this afternoon and although I haven't done an analytical on them, they look pretty good! If you're interested, drop them an email or give them a call. Gary Patrick 530-242-1316 or email rockerarms@rockerarms.com.

Looks good. CNC machining is a good move for them. They were always having troubles getting the investment castings made. It should be a simple process but for some reason they had a lot of trouble with casting vendors. I have a set of RAS rockers that have been on my engine for 30 years.

I've been using a set of his rockers for almost 20 years. I've probably made at least 2000 passes with them and they still have pefect clearance. They are the best investment that I've made for my engine.

As I've mentioned in the past, the only reason I sold mine is due to switching to cylinder heads that required additional intake pushrod offset. I had a full set of 1.5s plus a half set of 1.6s for the intakes, too.

The only downside to those rockers is they have a high MOI, based on them having a lot of weight on the top of the valve stem compared to other rockers I checked against. Likely not an issue until the RPM gets up to some undetermined point depending upon each individual combination.

Since they're CNC-ing them now, I wonder if they are taking advantage of this and trimming off more material during the machining process. They were (are) certainly the strongest rockers I ever owned and could have easily shed some bulk and maintained sufficient strength.

Doesn't look like they're using the same beefy shafts they used to offer, either. I still have a set of those that I use now w/ Hughes rockers on my Victors. The closest I've seen as far as shaft wall thickness are the Harland Sharp shafts, but they have a different location for the oil feed holes than the RAS "banana grooved" shafts do (did?).

Nobody's said anything about a current price, so I'll take a s.w.a.g. and say $1800-2000 for a set. They were already way over $1K when I saw they still advertised them years ago and ASSume they've simply gone up since then. If they are "only" $1500 now, I'll be surprised.

i assume they have had a FEA , and I wonder why the inside roller tip legs don't a larger in radius on the inside fillets. Seems like there should a little bit of extra clearance left over for the roller, but it's hard to judge from the pics.
Thery do look nice. What rides on the shaft, any bearings/bushings?

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

They have bronze bushing but the shafts have two banana grooved oil holes per rocker. They never seem to wear at all

Like any business, they have their ups and downs. It's easy to judge when you're not in their shoes, right? Done that before myself, but in my old age I have learned to forgive and forget. They've had their share of problems over the years but their products have always been very good. They've done 7-8 sets of rockers for me (Crane/Isky/OEM small block/Max wedge). Even though they can be slow, they're products are still very good.

I don't see how what you mention really applies here nor what problem that creates anyway, that I am missing.
Regardless, I would mostly trust FEA.

It's a round-about way of saying I don't think the RAS/RAU people are sophisticated enough to have used FEA to design them 25 years ago when I first saw a set

Looks like they've made an effort to keep the price somewhat in line, given how the cost of materials, etc. have risen over the last few years

I was shocked they were that cheap , if they really are that cheap I think I will sell off my Sharps and get these , I'd rather have bushed rockers than needle bearing in my application. ... stock appearing wink

Good to see that they are back. I am certain that i paid close to that for mine meny years ago. From what i can see it would appear that they have changed the way that they are oiling the push rod. Mine have a hole on the end that sprays oil onto the valve cover and then splashes back into the pushrod cup. From what I see in the photos they may have changed that.
