Often easier said than done, after 54 years and likely some rattle-can work over the original housing. For what's possible - though not necessarily what your car actually had - a Google search will help you. I think it's E-bodies.org or the ISCA site that has a bunch of photos. Rear axles would logically have call-outs for application, ratio, and dates of manufacture and assembly.
