My problem: I've got a perfectly restored Tuff Wheel to go in my Charger. I've got the perfectly restored adapter that came from the same 1981 Mirada to go with it. That adapter does not work. I've also got what I was told was a "truck" adapter that seems to go onto the shaft but instead of a contact disc on the rear, has what I can best describe as a thick wire that terminates with an inward angle. This doesn't seem right for the B-body column.

What I am looking to find out: is there a particular part number for the 1971-74 (...79?) B-body adapter? Does the truck adapter work or need modification, or do I need to buy another adapter?

Thanks for the help.

3467186 Should be the part number. As far as i know the truck one should be the same depending on the year. https://www.oerparts.com/product/3467186.html Post some pics if you can. BTW, who restored the wheel? Have a pic of it? thanks

The car version has a master spline, the truck version does not. They do not interchange.

Did the 81 Mirada have a tilt column?
If I remember my mopar anatomy class, tilit columns were a GM design and GM places the horn contact plate beneath the lock ring. Mopar place the horn contact plate on the bottom of the wheel itself.

Sounds like the adapter you have is for a gm. Or at least the mopar/gm column.

The Mirada adapter has a smaller gauge for the steering shaft. I don't remember 100% if the Mirada had tilt or not, that car went away in 2012. The photos that 1FastRunner sent look like the adapter I have, with that hook/loop thing around the shaft on the end that goes into the column. It did have a master keyway in the grooves.

That thick hooked wire holding the Horn contact disk to the adapter is the turn signal canceling mechanism.

It is supposed to extend into the column a little bit. When the steering wheel rotates back to center it catches on the turn signal mechanism in the column and causes it to pop the turn signal lever back to center.

I haven't worked on a gm/chrysler tilt column in over 30 years so I did not remember if the chrysler version had the gm or chrysler horn mechanism.

Is your current column tilt?

A few questions:

1. Does your Charger Daytona have a tilt column?

2. Does your restored adaptor have a master spline?

3. Can you post pictures of your restored adaptor?

Here are the two adapters in question. The maroon-painted one is the original Mirada adapter, the black one is the "truck" adapter (as it was listed on eBay).

Does your car have a tilt column? Yes or no.

Take a picture of the column, from the driver's side and post it.

No, the Charger does not have a tilt column. The column going into the Charger is not a tilt column.

You're losing me here.

There's a column in the Charger that is not a tilt column, right?

The column going into the Charger?? You're replacing the column currently in the car?

Neither column has tilt. Yes, I am replacing the column. The car is being converted from a column-shift automatic to a manual transmission. I didn't want to have a column shifter left over after converting to floor shift.

Ok, understood.

The floor shift column, take a picture of the splined shaft where the Tuff wheel adaptor would bolt on.

Does the splined shaft have a master spline?

What year is your Charger ?? . . . I put a tuff wheel onto the column of my 1980 M body (non tilt) . . . only issue I had, was that the hole where the wire for the horn comes thru on the adapter, I had to open up a little bit to fit over the piece on the 1980 column. Sorry it was the hole opposite where the wire is for the horn. I believe all adapters have the master spline . . .

Truck adaptors don't have the master spline.
