1977 low compression cast crank 440. That’s the way it goes.

7T means 1977 Trenton plant. It doesn't mean Truck. Late model blocks tend to have inconsistent cylinder wall thickness. If you're going to build a performance engine you'll need to have the block sonic checked. A fair number of those blocks will fail a sonic test so don't assume that it is good until it is verified.

There were tests were later blocks had thicker cylinder walls and softer metal

I agree. The myth of the thin walled late blocks has been rescinded. Not sure how that “fact” was started. I’ve sonic tested many blocks and the best blocks I have found were the 76-78 blocks as a whole. Any block can be core shifted.

I just read that article yesterday, I was looking for the weight of a bare 413 block and you had it.

The bad thing about all RB blocks, except the aftermarket race blocks, is the thin main webbing down scope they crack and you won't know that until it fails or you see on a maintenance check shock shruggy
if you're shooting for 700+ HP on gasoline, race or pump, don't use a stock 440 block to build it with tsk twocents

Thanks guys the 440 E HP through me off the 7T & thick balancer had me thinking it was a newer low performance eng. just wasn't sure,as far as blocks go you just never know thick or thin wall/core shift ? if going for high HP you gotta sonic test.

If you're wanting to make big power,700+HP, start with a good 400 block (sonic tested cylinder walls with .160 minimum cylinder wall thickness on both thrust sides after boring and honing, not a 440 block of any year tsk.
That or a race block up work
