I'd left its battery tender off for a couple weeks or so. Gave it a quick charge, and in 15-20 minutes it lit right off. Looked at what appeared to be a date sticker - it said "5/11" - and looked in its vehicle file. It's a 3-year battery, bought June 2011. Sure enough, the battery had entered puberty ! That beats my previous record of 11 years. Needless to say, even though the old battery has maintained 12.3 V for a couple days just sitting disconnected, I bought a new one today.

moparx "Butt Crack Bob" Joined: Sep 2003 Posts: 19,402 north of coder	i have a wally world battery i have been using for my charger that has a date of 4/11. i swiped it out of my wife's car and used one of those pulse chargers on it. it will work ok, but i still charge it now and again just to keep it up. it was made by johnson controls.

Dang, that's impressive! Be prepared to have to replace your new one in three years and one month. Facts are stubborn things.

All I ever did was have it hooked to a Schumacher maintainer when the truck would sit for awhile. Until recently, that is. I was reluctant to turn it in for the core charge

a12rag master Joined: Apr 2007 Posts: 2,918 Calgary, Alberta Canada	Thats awesome you got long time from your battery !!! . . . amazing what can happen when the battery is kept 'topped' up (charge wise), and topped up liquid wise too (I use distilled water) - that is if you can pop the caps off and check the fluid level in the cells. My MB I bought in 2015, the shop said the battery "should be replaced" . . . lol, thanks. I have kept the battery maintainer on it when not driving car, and it battery lasted til last fall !!! . . . nine years out of a "bad" battery - damn good !!! lol . . .

We drove the crap out of that car, and after we moved back north from South Carolina in 1986 it was still going strong. Sometime in 1987 it finally was starting hard, so I replaced the battery. Got 11 years out of that battery... The funny thing about science is that if you change one miniscule parameter you change the entire outcome to the way you want it.
