I believe payment by a cashier's check is a well-accepted method of payment with big ticket items. ignoring all the downsides of fake checks. I believe its possible to have a stop payment issued on a cashier's check, but the check cannot have been presented, and reimbursement of the check will not take place for an extended period of time, like up to a year. So, one considered safe way to deliver a cashier's check is thru USPS. If sending Express Priority mail at a cost of over $30, normally it's delivery is guaranteed by next day, and tracking is part of the service. What is the fly in the ointment and seldom mentioned, if your envelope with a big cashier's check enclosed is not deliverable for any reason, as determined by USPS, it is returned via regular mail, with no tracking. Ouch.
Note if address is a PO Box, only the USPS can deliver it.
Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

The point of this thread remember is about purchasing a Bonafide legit large cashiers' check from your? bank and a reliable way of getting it to the seller with a paper trail, short of personal hand delivery, until it's no longer reliable.

My point is to never use a Cashiers check and do everything with a wire transfer, just that simple... I'm looking to buy a $30,000 piece of equipment across the country from a small equipment reseller. "Appears" legit. Only way I would take delivery is to FLY to San Francisco (step over homeless and poop) and take delivery myself with a Uhaul. Problem is, wire transfers take a day. I could wait BUT they could not answer the door either after receipt. They said they'd have to waith 3 days for a cashiers check to "clear". 3 days of my time, food, motel, lost productivity is $$,$$$. The machine is worth over 2X and it's a great deal. I CERTAINLY can't take cash. I'm 61 and EXTREMELY sceptical. Everyone is guilty until proven innocent

In your case, can you obtain a cashier's check from a bank they use, and walk it with them to the bank, and let the bank verify it, etc on the spot would be my first suggestion and don't wear sandals..

Buddy of mine took a cashier's check for his Harley a few years back. Guy loaded the bike up and took off. Check was fake. My buddy turned it in to State Farm and they paid him same as being stolen.

Everyone is guilty until proven innocent I recently picked up a Demon 170 for a client and I had to inspect it before the wire transfer would be sent. My client had everything set up at his bank and all I had to do was call him to say all was good then the wire transfer was sent. It took about an hour before the wired money showed up at the sellers bank account...

How does this business generally take payments?

I received a 5 figure bank wire 30? years ago. It ended up being a contested business transaction in that they had missed our required in writing deadline. I was out of town when it arrived, and when I arrived a week later the senders bank had retracted? the money in full. Seems like they mentioned some "error" or something. I had never heard of such a thing. and have had a wary eye toward bank wires ever since. Don't know if the rules/laws have changed, but I suspect they like keeping that detail a secret.

Zero liability, if I inspect something my word is gold, always has been. If it doesn't pass my inspection then I tell the client and he usually passes. A few times I told the client what was wrong and they renegotiated, other passed and paid my expenses...

I seem to be sending out a lot of checks lately, be it bank checks or money orders. One thing that I don't think all that much of is that you can't insure an envelope. Send out a cashiers check for a couple grand, you can only hope and pray that it gets there.
Put it in a bubble pack mailer and call it a first class package. From USPS; Can you insure a USPS first class package? Up to $100 insurance coverage included in price of postage. Additional coverage may be purchased at any Post Office in increments up to $5,000.
July 19th should be "Drive Like Rockford Day". R.I.P. Jimmie.
