Medical bill was paid by insurance last year. One week before a year is up, I get a bill in the mail. Insurance clawed back the money. [censored]? I call and I’m told I can’t use walk in clinics, but I can go to a walk in clinic. Yeah that was said. I try to get her to say this is an out of network issue, she refuses, says same thing about walk in clinics not covered, but I can go to a walk in clinic and it’s covered. Umkay
I check their website, place I used shows in network. I call back, different person says they are trying to update their website. Fortune 100, maybe fortune 50 company can’t get it updated, a year later? Thinking appeal them in this bs and then department of insurance complaint if that doesn’t do it. Total nonsense. Tell me it’s covered, you cover it, then decide it’s not?

Time for a letter to your state insurance commissioner. In my life I've had three encounters with insurance companies (one medical) and when it got to an impasse, after I said "Well, I'll have to see how the state insurance commissioner feels about this", suddenly their attitude changed and they became much more accomodating.

Seems there is always some kind of crap going on. I've been doing major repairs to my house over the last few years & mostly working alone because of cost as well as just nobody I know that could physically help. Two close friends who would help me are too ill to do so. One has stage 4 MS & is in constant pain. The other has respiratory issues & a pacemaker. He needed an inhaler just to walk his dog. My repairs started with tearing off & replacing the roof, then removing the wrap around deck to be able to remove the cedar siding so I could repair walls, windows & doors. This can of worms led me to add insulation on the exterior, add a front porch overhang & then having to dig over a dozen new deck footings because there were none. Football sized lumps of concrete 6" down don't count.
Everyday life keeps us all busy & there is always something that pops up & gets in the way. Sometimes unexpected disasters arise & need to be dealt with. Work is busy with long hours, cars break, yard maintenance never ends, my son's college tuition is like another mortgage & my wife lost her job due to the company she worked for going under. Fortunately she just landed a new job a couple of months back, but we're still trying to recover financially after her being unemployed for a long time. My dad's wife just passed away 2 weeks ago after battling Alzheimer's for almost 2 years. He's 83 & gets around okay, but still needs help with certain projects at his house. It's a 3 to 3-1/2 hour drive to get there so if I go it's on a weekend & then I lose time on my own house.
I'm 61 & glad I can still do all this but I did notice that I can't toss a bundle of shingles onto my shoulder & go up the ladder like I used to. I suppose it can always be worse.

My younger brother gets runs of crap luck from time to time - his place in Arlington, TX has had a cluster-activity with the swimming pool and soil.
A run of PITA stuff is what finally pried me loose from my place in the woods near Sandpoint, ID to move to the Boise area.
But I have a lot to be thankful for, and I learned long ago that it's how we react to problems that affects us the most. There's always someone worse off and suffering, who'd gladly trade their situation for ours...

I threatened that and they didn’t care.
I’m going to start with a direct appeal with them so DOI can be shown I attempted to resolve it best I could.

Don't have time right now to give a lot of details.........
As of today (01/31) it's been exactly one month since my Mother unexpectedly died.
You can bet I'm having FUN of epic proportions.
Even with as little as my Mother had, there have been so many details to take care of and resolve.....
And so many FRIGGIN IDIOTS to deal with along the way.
"I'm calling regarding my Mother's account to let you know she has passed"
"Well, we need to speak with your Mother to get her permission to talk to you............"
And there's still so much more to do.
Lord, give me strength.....
I had a sister-in-law killed by a drunk driver about 15 years ago. Single, 2 small kids, just bought her first house, no will. My wife's trying to deal with the financial mess, so I get roped into calling the mortgage company. I spent over an hour on the phone, said "she's DEAD" over 50 times (I kept a tally), and finally hung up on them. When I called back the next day, I immediately told them I was also recording the call (first thing on their phone system said the call was being recorded) and they said they didn't consent to that and hung up on me. Called them back and told them they could contact her at the cemetery to foreclose if they wanted, but she was unlikely to respond, and that I was going to leave the keys on the kitchen counter and the doors unlocked. And I did. Never heard another word from them, so I have no idea what they did...
Some companies act like they've NEVER had a customer pass away and don't have any policies or procedures for it, while others are compassionate, transfer you to a specialist, and take care of things. I can't remember who, but one of the companies I dealt with when my mom passed (in the early days of COVID, but not from it) asked for her name and a couple details, put me on hold, and came back in about 2 minutes having confirmed her death, shut down her account, and getting my address to overnight me the final paperwork.

Tell me about medical bills. First wife passed from cancer in 1991 after a fifteen year battle. In 1994 three years after he death I get a bill from the hospital for $9,000 plus. Called them and told them to pound sand. They sent another bill. Told a friend at work what was happening. He said he had an aunt that worked for a billing company that handles the bill for that particular hospital. He told his aunt and I never seen another bill. Don’t know what she did.

Thanks for all the responses and support. Tank is toast Out of 12 businesses 4 responded. One wanted 75.00 to come look at it, NGH, appeared to be a stat up /franchise type deal. The other 3 were OK. One left oil and grease in the driveway, 15 minutes to clean up 🤬, Another father son team shot a price About 5-6K, would like it less of course but better than I expected. 3rd guy was referred by the guy that pumps the tank out, he showed up with copies of the plans permits etc. from when HE installed it 😲 I asked him about the warranty 🤣. he's retired now but still doing them We'll see how the bids are but liking the 3rd guy Thanks again for listening to the whining

HA. HA. Saw you mentioned Medicare. I just started another post asking about prices. Being a small biz owner like you, this has become an ENORMOUS cost. Was wondering what kind of finacial relief I can expect in 4 years.
SEPTIC - live on an island in the middle of a lake on the east side of Michigan. High water table. Stoopid people we bought a nice-ish 20yo lake house from BUILT THE GIANT PAVER FRONT PORCH OVER 1/2 THE TANK. Water is leaking in somewhere; tank, crack, connections? Not gonna tear everthing to hell to find "yep, the 50yo tank THEY DIDNT REPLACE is junk" So have decided to just get a new tank now, after having the field replaced last December. Bad thing is with the new field we are nearly land locked so have called around to get a 1000gal plastic septic tank that ony weighs 400lbs and hole can be excavated but a mini excavator. Mound style field was $20k and wife and I spent all last summer resodding cause everyone was busy to do a little $10,000 job?!? Wife and I did all the back braking work between making gaskets and vending at 4 Mopar shows. We're lazy that way. The big excavator they used TORE UP the yard. Muddy trenches 6ft deep. When they were done they said "We aren't landscapers. Thats on you". This time I'll buy heavy boards or planks to drive on and ONLY one of those small excavators.
Good luck to both of us

My 91 year old Aunt died Dec 30th. I am having exactly the same problem. The 2 people that are designated in her will and POA died before she did. I am her nearest next of kin and just want to get her bills settled. There won't be that much in her account. It will all be gone if we pay off the facility she was in. She owns nothing. Lawyer says $2000 retainer and $300/hr. Who gets what is in the account if we just forget about it? Does it just stay there forever? And what do we do about IRS?

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

My mother-in-law passed back in December. My wife contacted one of the companies her mother had done business with and let them know of her death. This company was kind enough to send a condolence letter with the notice her account had been closed. A couple of weeks later, they sent a bill for 2024's premium. This week, this same company sent a birthday card, wishing my deceased mother-in-law a long life!!!!
There has been a LONG list of stuff to do as a result of the mother-in-laws death. Some of the businesses have been reasonable. Some of the businesses do not seem to have any idea how to deal with the death of a customer!! The utter incompetence of some folks has been astounding!! It is just unbelievable!!!!

I just responded to your other post with my . Thanks for the idea on using wood 💡🎯🍺. Pretty soggy here right now with all the snow we had. I'll run it by the contractor and see if it's agreeable to them even after it drys out a bit
my "FUN" started this past wednesday when my blood pressure tanked to 80........... my wife called 911, and the ambulance hauled me to "the resort on the hill", a nickname my old man gave the local hospital you can literally see from my house, only about a mile away. they got my blood pressure kinda stabilized, but the crashing from normal to super low pounded my kidneys bad. so it was "bag lunches" and yummy hospital food for 3 1/2 days until my kidney function was back to normal and i was released. my meds have been modified, and i see my doc this coming wednesday for a med list overhaul and more blood work. first thing i did when i got home was grind off 47&1/2 pounds of barnacles to get clean, then finally in a bed that was COMFORTABLE to catch up on the lack of sleep one gets while in the hospital. i feel pretty good today, but i'm not allowed to do much until after the doc visit, where he will decide what i can and can't do.
