Hey Swepty guys- I'm buying this and I'm told it came ordered like this. Oddball 1971 Dodge D100 with this utility bed. SHORTBED.
I have been looking for a short bed project to build a hotrod truck out of now that I can no longer afford muscle cars since I sold off my last two Cudas to help build a ranch. I have been a mopar guy since the late 70s. I own a 67 Power wagon short bed 3/4 ton, which was a special order rig in its self.
This truck here is my attempt to find an increasingly hard to come by short bed and then find the correct sweptline bed for it
The guy I am buying it from cheap says it came original this way as he has had it for decades and got it from an airport where it was there utility truck as ordered since new.
The current owner is guessing its a stock short bed length but has never measured the wheelbase. He is assuming its stock. I will take a chance since its an auto/ 318 and runs He SAYS it has nice rockers and rusty floors. I think I have a line on a short bed so That would give me what I need. Looks like one of the fenders is toast. Just thought I would ask and see if anyone has seen stock short bed half ton utility bed like this ?

I've never seen a utility bed like that, my guess is cab and chassis' went to another shop to have them installed. It sure looks like a shortbox, the only thing that would make me nervous is airports ordered short wheelbases for tugs BUT this doesn't look that short.

I would buy it, just by looks it seems to be the right proportions. You could always move the leaf mounting spots if an inch or 2 is needed, or build a 3/4 link.

in the old days of utility beds they would bolt off the fenders off a step side then bolt the utility box in place....a complete box would go on a cab and chassis by aftermarket.....

Get your tape measure out! A short box truck has a box floor that is 6 1/2' long inside, front of the box to the tailgate. It can be give or take up to as much as 6" on that utility bed, the bumper brackets will accommodate the difference in the length. Gene

Saw another for sale in cali, blue with a seemingly identical bed. I do however , assume these did not leave a mopar plant with the beds installed.

rumblon---dodge was the first in factory rock crawler trucks----in the 60's at least government ordered 4x4 pickup trucks were shortbeds with 3/4 ton axles--mostly forest service and blm trucks there were some showing up in military orders too--i think they led the way in 4 door trucks as well--oh yeah first with the club cab as well....

I would love to have that bed and put it on my 92 shortbed, too bad you live in THE middle of nowhere... runaway

I was wondering also. I have a 70 with a contractors bed on it, but it is a D200 with an 8' bed, but the contractors box is shorter...
