So, I am adding a console to an automatic e body. I need the brackets to attach said console. I already have the shifter and bracket for it so I only need the front and rear bracket. I believe the consoles were all the same whether automatic or manual. I looked at AMD and they have an automatic bracket set that would give me a duplicate shifter bracket and then a manual set that just has the front and rear. My question is why is the front bracket different on the automatic set than on the manual set. Can I use the manual set for an automatic? Thank you in advance!

The consoles are different for manual and automatic. Looking at the pictures you posted, I see a lot of difference in the brackets.

The rear brackets in the pictures are the same , the top one is upside down .

The front brackets would be different because the 4 speed floor has the large hump to clear the side of the trans and the shifter rods ... with this in mind the 2 consoles are not the same so the OP will need to purchase the Auto trans bracket kit unless he is using a manual trans console base.

The front bracket for the auto setup has the bell crank bracket mounted to it thus the two welded nuts in it.

Yes in that picture with the three brackets it is the upper left.

If you are not going with the slapstick factory shifter and are going to put an aftermarket shifter you can modify the manual shifter front bracket to work.

If you are going to use the factory shifter you need that automatic set. That large boxy bracket in the top picture holds both the shifter and the console.

He says in his original post that he has the shifter mount bracket already, I ASSuME that it's the correct one , like the one in the picture?

Thank you all for your input. Yes, I do have the correct slap stick shifter bracket. It was still attached to the 1970 slap stick shifter I purchased. lol It seems I didn't take into account for the manual transmission hump. Sucks they don't sell individual pieces... they are sold all or nothing.

Good Catch! I missed that and the rear mount being upside down too.

If you have the shifter mount you have the forward console mount. Like John said earlier the rear mount is the same.

Sounds like all you need is the dog bone shaped rear mount. Should be easy to get or buy the manual kit and sell the front mount.

The front piece in the set seems to already be attached to the set up I have... so IMGTX, being able to see what I actually have, all I need is that rear dog bone shaped piece that is upside down?

Yes. You just need the rear dogbone bracket.

If you need measurements I may be able to but it will take a few days to unbury my 70.

Does it matter that this part is different on the piece that I purchased already compared to the one from AMD? AMD has a raised tab here where mine is flat. Does this annotate a year? The shifter that came attached to it was a 1970 shifter, so I ASSuMEd that it was pulled from a 1970. Will it make any difference? These pieces will just have to be spot welded to the floor, but will that tab make a difference in clearance or spacing to attach it to the console? Actually, now that I am looking at them side by side, there are A LOT of differences here. It was an ebody that this came out of, or so I was told. I recognized the slap stick, so I took the guy at his word.

Actually the brackets that you have are not B/E body. Buy the AMD set. The shifter is 70 E body

I didn't notice that but your right. I knew it didn't look like A or early B. It has the earmarks of an Ebody but not quite the same.

I'm wondering where that mount came from.
Maybe late B or C?

My luck. So, here was what I bought. I didn't want the console as it was beat up. I knew I needed the bracket for the shifter and the linkage so thats what I bought. If this is not from an ebody... is this linkage going to work?? Does the spacing look right? How can I tell for sure if this would work or not? You guys know more than me, is it positively absolutely not from an e body? I will be asking for my money back and I basically will be saying as politely as possible its because he must not be remembering exactly what car he pulled it from.

Mount the shifter in the bracket, take the lid off the console and see if the front mounting holes line up with the holes in the console.

It may still work. You may have to do some small fab work but not much.

This ^^^ ... take off the top plate and sit it over the shifter and see if it lines up with the console . That console was only used in E and 71 and later B body , but it doesn't mean the guy got it all out of the same car ? Have you set the shifter mount on your floor pan to see how it sits along with the console ?

Those look like either A or 68-70 B body brackets. Look how tall the main one is compared to the B/E mount. Set that main one on your tunnel then set the console on it. I'm betting it is way to tall. It would be a lot easier to just get to correct brackets and do it right.
