Thanks to all for the info on what they are ,
Interesting note, I'm sure that tailllight bezels are also made of potmetal, the magnet stuck to those, I'm guessing the chrome is magnetic ?

As far as I know Chrome isn't necessarily magnetic but a plating applied electrically. Electroplating is the technical term and can be applied to non magnetic materials also. Think brass. It is different then vacuum metalizing used to "chrome" plastics. As for the original question I always assumed pot metal. Die cast was how they made pot metal parts. I could be wrong

It's the "chicken nuggets" version of metal... On a side note, if needing to be welded, it usually welds just like aluminium, so tipically is aluminium based

Sadly I'm not fixing anything that is broken ... I'm lightening the load of 40 years of on again off again car stripping. I have a bunch of 68-69 Dart taillight housings I'll never sell and I just needed to figure out what pile, steel or alum , to include them in.

Pot metal.
I'd suggest at least give them away for the cost of shipping.
They can be blasted and painted silver or black as a serviceable part for low budget vehicles (if such a thing exists anymore)
