O Holy Night (sang it once at midnight mass as a kid)
We Three Kings (wonderful song for male harmony)
I'll Be Home For Christmas (tear up every time I hear it)
"We live in a time when intelligent people are being silenced so that stupid people won't be offended".

"I'll Be Home For Christmas" would always bring tears from Mom, and one day she told me why: It was WW2 and she was in her 'teens; several young friends in the circle of what was a pretty tight group were serving, and a few KIA. One dear friend was returning home from the European Theater by ship, but it had been reported as hit and likely lost. It was Christmas, and that group of friends & family gathered often for card games, occasions, and holidays, plus wartime moral support. So, they're at my Grandparents' house & all singing that song...and there's a knock at the door. Opening the door, there's the young man they'd thought had been lost at sea.
Mom has kind of passed her reaction to the song on to me.

Thanks Topside, for sharing this story. I know all of us have special memories of certain holiday songs, growing up, or having memories of songs passed down, such as your mom as a teen, and her amazing story! Happy Holidays to you and yours.

Great story Topside It has always been my favorite too. Probably Frank Sinatra's version. If I never hear Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer again I'll be happy

Im sure one will find something racist in the others decision. Didn't momma ever teach you, to not be so negative all the time? Sheesh! What's your favorite Christmas song? "You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch"??

Hmmm..."old greats" just triggered another memory... Dad's side of the family used to have reunions from time to time, and this one IIRC was in Evansville, IN.Being that much of them are devout Lutherans, some - Uncle Carl in this case - have keys to their churches. Uncle Carl was a pianist & organist, and this church had a pipe organ, so a bunch of us go over there to hear him exercise it. Now, I had - and still have - no idea how the volume is controlled on them, but Uncle Carl played it LOUD. Made the hairs on your neck stand up, and it was magnificent. Reflecting back, it was like us cranking up the stereo, but from an older generation, and about as analog as things get...

I am sorry. My reply here was rude. I thought I was posting in a different section in a reply to a different poster. Christmas rocks.... one of the good things we still have left. Im sure one will find something racist in the others decision. Didn't momma ever teach you, to not be so negative all the time? Sheesh! What's your favorite Christmas song? "You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch"??

The entire Mitch Miller album I agree! My parents had that record, when I was a kid. Mitch wearing a "Santa hat" with his signature goatee. We would put it on the record player every Christmas eve, while celebrating my dad's birthday. We also listened to Frank Sinatra's Christmas record, Barbara Striesand, Andy Williams, and more. Great and fond memories listening to those records with my family!
