1955 Plymouth

Based on the trunk ornament the car had a flathead six engine. Eight cylinder cars had a 'V-shaped' ornament.

It has been stated, said, on here that Plymouth did not offer a V8 in 1955, the first year V8 was in 1956 when they switch to 12 volts

Plymouth offered a 260 cubic inch V8 for 1955. It was available with either a 2 barrel carb or 4 barrel carb. The flathead six was standard for most models.

This is the first I have ever heard of Mopar making a 260 C.I. V8, never seen any references in any Motor or Chilton's automotive repair motor manual to them either
I have heard of and possibly seen several 301 C.I. Mopar early (1955 and later) poly headed V8 production car motors

Maybe he means the 277? The 277 was offered in '55 and '56 and could be had with 2 and 4 barrel carburetion. It was of course, a Polyspherical engine.
Hard to believe there's also a 301 and a 303. The 303 (and it's cousin, the 313) were Canadian/Export-only engines. Interesting point is that the 303 used the 277's connecting rods.

This must be the first time my memory has failed me, maybe being ten years old in 1955 and the lack of massive information availability to us back then may have led me to believe that what I had ASS U ME was wrong, SORRY :blush

AKA aside I was sure that all 1955 Plymouth had inline flathead sixes in them, no V8 in them in 1955 OH WELL :

Seems a bit crazy to me that there were that many different displacements.
Then again, the various Hemi engines came in a wide spread too.
Note the "big" engine is more oversquare, and the minor differences in power output among the 4.

Same-year Chevy V8 had to be a more cost-effective program being all 265 CI.
A few different power ratings, but all more similar.

Yes, it does seem a bit odd how they did the V8 stuff, doesn't seem too cost effective though it appears the 260 is nothing more than a bored out 241? Maybe it was a marketing gimmick? The HP wars were just starting up and though Plymouth was the low cost Mopar line it still needed to compete with other low cost alternatives.

Remember the SBC first came out in 55, the 265 and it's equivalent to the Plymouth 260 made a touch less HP, 162 vs 167. Those early SBC had their durability issues.

I am into the flatheads. my 230 I am building is setup for 9:1 compression. I expect it to make 150 hp, 53 more than the stock 218 that is in my 51, well when it was new, lol.

Given that you are in Canada, and looking at the front clip, I'm thinking it's a 1955 Dodge Regent (or Mayfair?).

Canadian Dodges at the time had a Dodge front clip installed on a Plymouth body (and side trim). The kicker for me is that it appears to have chrome headlight rings (Dodge) rather than the forward-slanting headlight bucket (Plymouth), though the pic is blurry so it's hard to tell for sure.
