All,
There are so many choices now for aftermarket aluminum water pump housings and would like to know if there is such a thing as a good one vs. bad.
So far I see these offerings,

CVF P/N BCRL-WPH
CVR P/N 7426(picture has Mopar logo and P/N cast into pump)
Proform P/N 66228
Proform official license's part P/N 440-453
440 source
Pro-comp/Speedmaster - Forget it.....
PRW P/N 5244002
Summit/Jegs/Mancini branded housings

Not to excited about Proform products. Will not even waste my time with Speedmaster/pro-comp. Would really like to know if the CVR casting is actually what they pictured on there website.

Define old, the newer versions ~2000 and up were fine. Not sure when the change mayhave happened? I would've thought a motor plate version would havehad a different part # shruggy beer

I've used several 440 Source water pump housing and they have been fine. Also used their water pumps.

The 440 source was under controversy many years ago for having small passages. I have one and it works fine but was also wondering if they have made changes to there casting. For this build I'm doing now, I want something I can pass off as stock appearing but not necessarily stock. the 440 source casting has there logo on it and not really liking that for this build.

maby i need to clarify this .when i used the mopar water pump housing was in the early 80's i had to fab 2- 1/4 inch aluminum spacer plates for it to bolt up without hitting timing cover so yes its useless without the spacer plates . cant put a date or part # what year mopar made these housings.

I've had 440Source ones. Many gave them a bad rap claiming the water passages were to small causing overheating. Yeah, they were a little small ... so I used a die grinder and opened them up. At the time you couldn't beat the price and some people are just "China haters" and will complain about anything. I've see other brands - Mancini have most of them on display at shows they attend. Personally I still like the Mopar one best of all.

Seems like the Mopar aluminum version is gone as we know it. Now Proform has a licensed version. Don't know anything about this housing.

I hate China also. We saved their @$$'s in WW2 ..then they attacked US on Christmas Day in Korea..supported North Viet Nam directly...steal everything they can from the US...trying to destroy the dollar and building up an Army to intimidate US. Yes...I HATE china

I am quite leery of anything from Proform, licensed or not. over the last 25 years we have experienced nothing but trouble on Customers cars with their junk. I bought one of there "Licensed" electronic ignition conversion kits thinking how bad could they screw that up?. THEY DID!!! the distributor was an extremely poor copy of an Original. Sent it back and bought a rebuilt, a control box and harness twocents beer

Several years ago 440source did tool and sell a water pump housing that had smaller internal passages..
I understand they did correct the tooling, and sold out the originals with smaller passages as scratch & dent inventory..
Since my primary job is sourcing electronics I have been to China >30 times puchasing signficant $$. So yes I know very well about the Chinese culture, system of subcontracting, and outsourcing for crucial materials..
The only way to guarantee acceptable end-quality is to do outgoing QA inspection and monitoring of each subcontractor, all the way up to and through mass production.
For my personal Mopars, I have used the Mancini water pump housings with good sucess..

Just my $0.02.... wink

I've used both driver and passenger side pump housing from 440 Source in a last few years. Work fine.

Have used multiple 440 Source Housings with no problems. Use GMB or Milodon for the Pumps.

The only Carbs I care about are under the hood!

In looking at the aluminum pump housings, I don't see the provision for the temp sensor. Do these relocate the temp sensor to an other than factory location?

You could always grind the logo off , I cut off and countoured the upper alt. mounting point at the thermo stat housing and added the proper water temp sensor mounting spot on a Mopar housing to make it look correct for 67 up.

I have a passon alum 4 speed case , ground the logos off it too.

running up my post count some more .

Have you ever ask any of the hundreds of companies that have their products made in China why they do that?
The answer is the same reasons American companies move their manufacturing to Mexico, Canada, India, and many small African countries now and so on, it's all about the bottom line and how much money they can make shruggy

The very early(1958 to maybe around 1965 or so) Mopar B and RB pump housing had the temp sender located on the driver side return passage into the pump housing, They moved it over to the passenger side by the heater hose bosses scope
Why I have no idea confused

My guess is that housing had been milled 1/4" for a motor plate but you didn't know it. There are hundreds of those around. That housing was used on the 65 and 68 Race Hemi's and sold over the counter for decades and I've never heard of it hitting anybodys timing cover. One that has been milled looks exactly the same until you lay it beside an uncut one.
