My daughter is working on a research paper for PTSD. One of the things she has to put in it is a counterpoint to PTSD effecting family members. She researched and could find how PTSD effects family members, but not the opposite. Is there any actual research out there on it? She can not just put her opinion of it in the paper.

I don't suffer from PTSD, so I'm no help in that regard.
But, could the counterpoint be that many people that do suffer don't reach out, so loved ones don't understand the demons that they deal with?

the two above were extremely brave, highly capable writers, who described in writing recovering in special WW-1 hospitals for Shell Shock.

One of my high school history teachers who was a Marine veteran of Guadalcanal required his teenage students to read the poems and letters of Sassoon and Owen.

He also assigned us reading about the incident with General George Patton and a hospitalized soldier.

I can say from personal experience that 1970s coal miners often brought up the subject during lunch break and I have witnessed Korean War vet foremen “guiding” Vietnam vets toward coping strategies.

Agreed. A family can't help someone who doesn't want to be helped. The person isolates themselves and believes that others won't understand them.
