After seeing this video, I am thinking about an automatic fire suppression system. I was already planning to add a manually activated system. What are the pros and cons of automatic? Is there much risk of unintended activation? Thanks, Joel https://youtu.be/DUS5tYBLycc?feature=shared

I don't have an automatic, but I do have a manual pull system in one of my cars just in case.

I've had (2) 10lb systems in my car for going on 5 years now. One circuit is heat sensing auto discharge I use for the drivers area and the other is manual activation for the engine bay. I can't think of any negatives for the system, other than being kind of pricey, and the auto side can be manually activated too if I need it. It's made by Spa Technique and uses a liquid filled glass bulb to hold the valve shut very similar to a fire sprinkler system you would find in a public building. The activation temp on the auto discharge is 175 degrees.

That was sobering. A few things I didn't hear addressed or I missed: 1. A tree should not be near any race track 2, Did the car have a rated real fuel safety cell? 3. Was the cell caged at all? 4. Most automatic fire suppression systems are only active for around 15? sec, he mentioned fuel kept reigniting, and granted 15 sec of less burn time is still a big plus. 5. Did fuel pump have an automatic crash cut off switch? 6. Contrasting colors of suits and belts should be a requirement. 7. My preference is for a dual suppression system, automatic in fuel cell area, and another manual for driver and engine 8. I respect the driver for candid sharing and voiced concern to help prevent others from ever having the same fate.
Edit, also ought to make few reconsider the track cars that are street driven with fuel lines running out the rear of an exposed tank to a nearby high-capacity electric fuel pump that is mounted a few inches from the bumper. It won't take much to heat up your day up when a texting driver shoves the rear of your car into the car ahead of you while you are sitting at a red light with now jammed doors wearing a tee shirt and flip flops while out for a weekend cruise with your wife.

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

Mine s a 10lb manual. Drivers compartment and engine compartment. The electrical shut off is cable connected to lever on the cage. With one arm movement I can swipe the electrical and the fire bottle. Nothing by the cell. But it is firewalled in the trunk. Doug
