Sorry I don't know the answer to the question but this smells a lot like the r-12 change to environmentally friendly 134 that is suddenly now BAD for the environment. Or is it we did it once, hmm about time to do it again and refill our banks accounts And the price of 134 is doing what r-12 did along with R U RDY 4 IT again ( What I call the "NEW" replacement). keep in m mind it's not just the cost of the freon but the equipment required by all small business owners. Watched the same thing in Ca. with the ever changing emissions laws. SBO buys a 50K machine that is useless 5 years later. This is not a political comment but rathe an observation of mine. Pleases delete if deemed to offensive or political

I agree this is another money grab by dupont or whomever. If you follow the patents , patent expiration and regulation changes by date it seems more corrupt than environmentally friendly. I'll stop there.
As for the Y1234 vs R134a, The small amount left in the hoses should not make a difference.
If I remember correctly Y1234 is a low pressure refrigerant so make sure the guages will read the pressures needed for a proper charge and go to town. OMG Say it ain't so π€£π€£π€ͺπ€ͺπ€£π€£π» the ethanol deal is another one other important detail, they reccommend KY for the orings as they say it slips in easier Thanks for the response as I have wondered myself

one other important detail, they recommend KY for the o rings as they say it slips in easier Also works well for installing windows. Always gets looks for the clerks when a 70+ male is buying multiple tubes.

I think I'd mostly be concerned about any residual oil in the lines, since they're probably different and incompatible? But even that should be negligible. Nylog blue works well for o-rings. After you weigh it in, close the red valve at the engine, then slowly let any freon in the red hose into the blue hose, and back into the system. Then you won't lose the high pressure freon, and your weights won't be off
If you ever find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

Then you won't lose the high pressure freon, and your weights won't be off Not understanding the above, gauge instructions say to never open high side during charge, Freon is sucked in low side? I agree this is a money grab, this βnewβ crap is $50/can compared to $10 for the R134. From what I read a lot of people purge the new stuff and fill system with R134. Servicing the βnewβ system is $500 or more compared to $200.
