Hi all, I have a 69 Superbee it has the rear defogger option , a couple of years back I had the rear defogger motor rebuilt..... so today I install the motor and it works. Now, here's my issue, I notice that the defogger switch has (3) positions kinda like; off - low - hi speed but the motor has only one speed, (hi). My question is, is this normal operation between the switch and motor or am I missing something. Maybe this switch is used for other applications where (2) on positions are needed ??

Shop manual shows two speeds. Page 8-96. Motor should have a white lead which is 'low' and a black lead which is 'hi'.

Thanks for the reply, I looked at the diagram that you mentioned and it's not like that at all.....only one wire from the dash right to the defogger motor and only one connector at the defogger motor, so that all lines up, btw, both the wire and defog motor (are) original to the car.... it's just after 40 years of restoration I don't recall having felt (2) clicks of the switch but only one motor speed....still confused , but at least it works.

If that is what your service manual says I have no idea what you are looking at. Here is page 8-96 From the 1969 Charger Coronet Dart Service Manual.

I get it. Sorry for the brain fart, I misunderstood what you were saying. This intrigued me so I've done a little more digging and what it looks like is that there should be a resistor block on the blower. The body harness plugs into it with a two conductor plug (the black and white wires) and then the blower motor plugs into it with a single conductor. This is one of many photos I found.

Wow, my motor is totally different , just motor and mounting plate no resistor or resistor plate. On the picture that you supplied note the single green wire that comes out of the motor...... well thats all I have on my def. motor, been like that since the car was new along with the single black wire that comes from the dash that plugs into the single green wire connector at the motor. when I sent out the motor to be rebuilt (Jules) the rebuilder said nothing like I was missing something or it's the wrong motor or anything of that nature. I guess that in his view nothing seemed out of place, weird or missing, so back to my original question, was this an error, a factory change over or just normal on some cars ?

I don't know what to tell you. Looked in the '69 parts book and there is no listing that I can find for a resistor with the rear window defogger blower. I had a '68 Charger years ago with that option, I wish I'd paid more attention. Do you have a picture of what you have?

One of the C11/C12 wires is a "resistance" wire. Most likely the C12 (low) to motor. Was used in place of a resistor.

One last question, if you unplug the motor at the connector shown in your last picture, what does the body side of the connector look like and does it have two wires or one wire connected to it?

Hi, just one connector on each side.... I know what you mean, could be one plastic connector with (2) spades inside but this is not the case. What you see is exactly what's there, one black wire to the connector, then out the other side of the connector where the single wire is now a very dark green right up to the motor and the black wire coming out of the motor grounds itself to the motor housing.

Well, I'm fresh out of ideas. I was hoping someone that has the rear window defogger would chime in but so far no go.

Later, BUZZ 1st: are there 2 wires going to the switch? 2nd: Does it the motor work when using switch in both positions. Note: some years/models they used a "resistance" wire in-leau of a resistor. That's how it would reduce the speed.

update; went into the garage last night to test this resistor wire thing, does anyone know what the resistance values should be ? I get the black wire, I tested it ,4 ohms, test the white wire, same thing 4 ohms...... seems to me white wire should have a higher ohms reading, unless I'm testing this wrong. I have one test lead plugged to connector that plugs to the motor and the other lead plugs to the white/black wire connector at the kick panel location where I touch the test lead to one or the other wire. Back to my first post, I totally forgot about that double wire connector at the kick panel..... so I stated that it had (1) wire from the dash to the motor, I was totally wrong (my bad) if I would've spotted the kick panel connector that would've explained the (2) position switch. I guess that's what you get when the car is in parts for 40 plus years.

Later, BUZZ Is there this junction on your wiring harness? 4 ohms seems high for a standard type wire of that length.
