Hey Guys,

My little brother wants to have the 8-3/4 for his Dodge Demon gone through. The rearend came out of a 1970 Duster 340 car and supposedly is a 3.55 posi. He would like to have it checked and made sure everything is ok, and change the axles over to the bigger bolt pattern and replace the bearings. Can anybody recommend where to buy a kit for this. I have looked on Stranges website but am not sure what kit to buy. Are there any other companies that offer a kit. The car will mainly be a street cruiser with an occasional trip to the strip.

For those of you that helped with the torsion bar questions, thanks again we just got them the other day.

-Thanks,
Brian

does it have the skinny 1 3/4" brake shoes and drums?

if so step up to the large brake offset on the axle and run the b-body brake while you swaping it around to 5 on 4.5 wbp,

as for the suregrip jack both wheels up and have a buddy grab one side and turn it while you grab the other and spin in diff direction..if you can slip it in needs replaced

if its the cone type, there are shims to use after milling some off the cones to make the differance back up on the side gears which can be done to get some more life out of it faily cheap,contact..Trwaters here on the board for the shims, they are 30$ a pr and come with instructions

doctor diff a member on the board here can set you up with the axle package also

moser also has the large brake offset axles wit 5 on 4.5 wbp 299.00$ apair with green bearings

green bearing will get rid of the end play adjustment unless you would prefer to keep the stock bearing set and adjuster

geens and larger brake off set will make the whole rear end 1/2" wider..1/4" each side also

and a 4 1/2" backset on the rims works just right for it on the a-body

i would try a local spring/axle shop to redo the chunk ans save shipping it

and its a suregrip in there..posi dont go round here!saavay?

i have bought 3 sets of axles fom doctordiff..

excellent service..and if you buy the all the parts from one place..probably everything is to fit..

piece meal it together will end up costing more money and time.

I'd get a set of axles with bearings(regular tapered not green)& outer seal flanges all ready to slide in from the good doc and pirate a set of 10" brakes(backing plates/drums/linings/hardware from any functioning BBP 8&1/4 or 8&3/4 & your converted as cheap as you can. EDIT & dont forget (1) new foam and (1) new steel shim seal and the inner seal that you drive in (3 total) per side

No need to measure, it's going to have 1.75"x10".
You can buy 4.5" axles that will allow you to keep them after drilling the drums, but parts for those brakes are getting harder to get.
Grab a set of brakes off any 4.5" bolt pattern Mopar, even the smallest, 2"x10", will out perform the A body 10" brakes, and most stores will have parts in stock or there the next day.
