I have been wanting to buy the set of books they had at one time, but never made the purchase. Their newest volume combined 2 books into 1 book. I found a used copy that was cheap and bought it. I’m about 50 pages in and it’s a damn good book! Anyone else read their book(s)?

I've got the two volumes at home. Very good books

The Horsepower Chain is a good read as well.

I've got to get the new Billy Godbold valvetrain book, along with the Harold Bettes book on induction.

I taught engine rebuilding at a vocational college, I used the older two volume books in my class room instruction, plus the college library had copies as well. Very good info, not speed tricks just good reliable info on how a performance engine functions.

Check out Darin Morgan's uploads on youtube,

He worked for Reher Morrison for 20 years and now works for Bischoff (BES) and he was the Chief Cylinder Head designer for the new Ford Pro Stock heads and block. (Although the basic architecture of the block is based on the GM DRCE3)

I actually met Lee Sheppard at Darlington and it was only a week or 2 before his unfortunate passing, He was sitting on the hood of his Dualie between qualifying rounds with his back resting on the windshield.

He was such a cool guy I couldn't believe he would take all that time to talk for almost an hour with some eager-to-learn 22 year old kid.

So the R-M affiliated guys have a special place in my heart for sure.

Today, so many turn to the mis-information superhighway for their engine questions. But how do you filter the wheat from the chaff? A well written and researched, published & printed book, by a reputable author, is so much more reliable than the internet. You can look stuff up and can usually count on it. But it's not free, so many folks today miss out.

I got the RM championship engine assy book off of ebay about 10-15 years ago, it is awesome. So much in depth info that you don't get anywhere else.

The same with other books of the same ilk. I have Goldbolds cam book, Sunnens engine building book, a handful of other books on blueprinting and building, 3 of David Vizards books. Every one is a treasure of knowledge and experience, well worth the time and money. I also try to get the factory service manuals for everything I own, as well as motor manuals and Glens manuals from the 30's - 1970's. I just ordered the FOUR-STROKE PERF TUNING 4th Edition by A. Graham Bell. I don't have it yet, but have high expectations based on what I've read about it.

I think that there are many very smart people in some of these Facebook groups, they are just burnt out by the abundance of idiots on there, so they say nothing.

Much can be said for reading something decent or learning about it yourself. Seems to be a lot of people are afraid to test things out for themselves these days.

And then you have the booksmart guys that don’t do anything themselves but question or tell everyone else how to do it. Lol 😂

iagree iagree iagree With both of these guys. I'm no expert by any means, but I try to help when I can. I hardly comment on anything on FB anymore b/c there's always some idiot who's gonna argue w/ you. It always goes downhill really fast.

We've got a few of them here laugh

I work with engineers and material scientists, sometimes the will spend weeks thinking about a solution to a problem, when all it takes is a couple of quick experiments to get the answers.

Agreed on the internet BS. There are guys that JUMP on certain topics with AUTHORITY. I see these posts and cringe whne the misinformation begins regurgitating knowing full well that the internet authority has no direct experience on the subject matter. There is a vertigate shifter thread on FABO going right now that is laughable. Where I am from people made fun of thise silly shifter but hey what do I know about powershifting a 4 speed.

Thank you OP for the heads up on the book.
