I have a new alternator hot wire clip I picked up some time ago. I thought I'd finally put it on my alternator but I don't see where it should be mounted. It came with a machine screw but I don't see any threaded holes on the back of the alternator. I have several alternators both round and square back and I don't see where the clip would mount on either style. Were these clips only used on certain alternators or certain years of cars?

I believe the screw threads into one of these holes.

That's what I thought but the holes aren't threaded, at least on the alternators I have. I thought I could just tap one of the holes but because they weren't already threaded I thought that maybe not all alternators came with the clip.

Self threading screws.

Just like extension housing snap ring retainer screw holes for overdrives, used self tapping screws.

So, since neither of those holes are threaded on the alt on my car (nor the other alts I have), apparently the hot wire clips were never installed on them. So, what determined whether the clips were added to alts or not? Just curious.
