I need to get one of these fluid transfer pumps to change the transmission fluid in one of our vehicles that uses the bottom drain of the pan to also fill it. It also works for differential fluid. Pricy but well worth the price over time. Summit and most places have them.
I want one too, but I am to cheap and use the hand pump like mentioned above

Hey, I use a transfer pump, pump. Small plastic pump that screws onto the bottle of lube. We use it on a lot of transmission (like my Tremec) that has zero room to fill. I think I got it at Harbour Freight. Works great. Jeff that`s what I used.

I just pusha a tight fitting rubber hose over the "tip" on the gear lube bottle, put the other end in the fill hole, turn the bottle upside down and squeeeeeeze the bottle, forcing the oil uphill. You won't be able to empty the bottle that way...just put the excess in the next jug. Good enough for me.... Thx for the replies. I picked up the $10 HF transfer pump and a $5 90-deg 3/8" brass fitting at Lowes. Worked ok, but the HF pump has a screw on cap larger than the gear oil bottle. So I had to cut down the bottle enough to fit the pump inside. So the process worked with a little bit of a mess. Need to find a small bottle with a screw spout to match the pump for next time. Or the Fat Mike's method just might be easier.

I have had one similar to this for over 40 years
In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

IF this is a refill after pulling the cover for service, put the full load of gear oil into a baggie. Stuff baggie into housing. Reseal cover. Drive it. The gears will turn the plastic bag back into oil.

I have had one similar to this for over 40 years Yup...same here, used this for both emptying and filling back up the good ol' banjo! Having said that, for my 2020 STI I picked up the gear oil in the flexible containers that you can actualy roll up. Haven't done the maintenance work yet (tomorrow if the weather holds up?), but at least that container style appears to give you a little more leaway with fitting it all. Worst case, if that doesn't work out will come the above mentioned pump and I'll go down that route.
