Just in case you didn't know ...

I the past whenever I sold an item I'd generally ask for payment with a USPS International Money Order for the simple reason that neither I nor the buyer would be hit with ridiculous percentage fees that Paypal charge,

Well I recently sold some items and the buyer insisted on paying with Western Union. I won't bore you with the details but I ended up not getting the full amount out of the deal because WU screws us on the exchange rate.

So this time (same buyer) I told him I wanted payment with a USPS International Money Order. But knowing he might be objectionable I decided I do all the research into the cost, etc..

WELL ... it just so happens that as of April 2019 the USPS and CanadaPost no longer issues money orders which are redeemable in either country.

https://about.usps.com/postal-bulletin/2019/pb22527/html/updt_002.htm

IMM Revision: Termination of International Postal Money Order Service with Canada Post
Effective August 30, 2019, the Postal Service™ is revising Mailing Standards of the United States Postal Service, International Mail Manual (IMM®), part 371, to reflect that the exchange of international postal money orders with Canada will be discontinued.

As published in the article titled “Canada Post to Terminate International Money Order Service” in Postal Bulletin 22526 (8-15-19, page 38), Canada Post will discontinue its international postal money order service exchanges with the U.S. Postal Service®. Likewise, the Postal Service will no longer sell international postal money orders destined for Canada, and will no longer cash international postal money orders issued by Canada Post.

Customers who have a USPS-issued international postal money order destined for Canada may redeem the money order for face value at any USPS® retail unit. Also, customers in possession of a Canada Post-issued money order must cash it at a U.S. Post Office™ facility before August 30, 2019. Starting on that date, customers will be advised to return the money order to the sender.

Why not just use e-transfer?

And generally speaking Americans are too ignorant to understand international e-transfers OR they're so paranoid about "big brother" or the "tax man" they don't want banks involved - 'cause, you know, $50 from the sale of a used part would put you in a higher tax bracket !!!

That ignorant comment is way out of line. If you don't like dealing with Americans then don't. If it took you four years to find out about the money order issue then you are the not too bright one.

I wouldn't say ignorant, they don't use e-transfers. The easiest way to deal with US buying/selling is putting up with paypal.

I haven't accepted a US money order in years because it seems like a lot of places don't want to cash them and those that do always charge some rip-off fee.

Yes you can send e-transfers to the US lol

The BEST way would be to just use bitcoin and send it in a millisecond with no fee BS but thats another story

Myself I would have the buyer add the paypal fees or split them, and add the exchange rate difference. I've seen many Canadian sellers advertise at US rates so they do not lose due to the rates.
BUTTTTT don't know the laws up there. Down this way, if it's larger transaction then Uncle Joe want's his cut as well. If one in the US does a lot of these transactions might be time to look into a business that would allow other tax advantages (write offs) to help with the 1099 PORKING wink beer

Its should be reversed since Canada is rich in oil but he UN/WEF had their way in BOTH elections and that money will stay in the middle east - unsure why, backroom deals / treason I suppose

PayPal's currency conversion fee to US or Canadian dollars is 3.5% but is 4% for other currencies. PayPal also charges a 4.5% fee for conversion service.

Via Google. Is this a ebay deal? I haven't used "pay pal"(the original that ebay started) in years. Ebay now takes different forms of payment but not sure if it's all threw the new pay pal. Another thing i noticed they charge you higher than your state sales tax. I tried to figure out a way to email them and ask but it's seems like a rabbit hole.

They should be charging the tax for the state the buyer lives in, not the seller.
And if you sell something to a foreign buyer there should be no tax charged, its the responsibility of the receiving country's Customs service to collect the tax if they so chose.

I had a Liberal tell me why this is and it sounds like complete Horse Hockey, but it *ALMOST* makes sense. He said to me that the Middle East - as a whole - is two steps away from complete anarchy since it's most owned by a bunch of half-insane, megalomaniacal Sultans' and his children most of which couldn't care less about the rest of the world as long as they can continue eating tiger testicles and having their cars gold plated. If we want "peace" to continue, we need to keep dumping money there because imagine the complete insanity that would happen should the Middle Easts' economy suddenly tank. People will starve, Sultans will be eaten, Nuclear weapons will be launched. Their economy is solely based upon oil and if that went away you'd have several countries collapsing and they won't care who they take with them since we're all heathens in their eyes anyway.

I mean, it almost makes sense and he halfway had a point.... but to have that kind of [hate speech] coming from a self-proclaimed Liberal.... I had a hard time keeping a straight face.

The worst thing that ever happened in the middle east was Lawrence of Arabia getting all the Arab chiefs to sit around a table !!
