I haven't been that way in a while but would have thought the new bridge would have been built close to the existing one. Not so, there's no sight of the existing one in the video so it must be quite a distance away. Also, there is no indication of the new bridge on Google Earth so those satellite shots must be fairly old.

Most of that video was taken on the Canadian side of the river. They industrial complex you see on the other site de is US Steel (Great Lakes Steel). The bridge was moved further down the river to get the traffic (mostly truck) away from downtown Windsor. I was told the Canadians basically told the US where the bridge would cross. The US politicians couldn’t reach agreement on a location. Doesn’t surprise me.
Well moving it downriver makes absolute sense. Since there is already a bridge and tunnel servicing both downtown areas it made no sense to put another one there.
While the politicians played a part in where it ended up, it was mostly due to the Maroun family (owners of the Ambassador Bridge) buying up most of the industrial land around the current bridge and not wanting a new bridge to be built. There is an added benefit of it getting a lot of the truck traffic out of neighborhoods in Detroit and Windsor also. How a private business is allowed to own/control an international crossing like that is beyond me. My family moved here when my Grandfather came here to work on the existing bridge. Not sure who owned it back then.
