I have a 2017 Ram 2500 that has around 23,000 miles on it. The original Firestone tires that came with the truck are about shot. Pretty disappointed that they aren't going to make it much past 25K. Tires are a 285/60R20 size. Truck is mainly used to drive back and forth to work and tow to the racetrack about once a month. What tires have you guys put on your trucks and liked?

Michelin for the summer, Bridgestone for the winter.

If you don't need winter specific tires in the winters, its pretty hard to beat the Michelin tires. They may be priced higher because they sure seem to be better tires then other choices.

From what I’ve noted at work you’ll be lucky to get 30k out of any tire on that era pickup. My Firestone transforce HT were pretty much done at 17k. Luckily I got a set of takeoffs at work. I have a 17 3500 ram not dually. Only way my tires will last is we avg 5k miles a year on it. Funny how way back when I got our 01 2500 CTD a set of Michelin LTX tires would last 60k….

If I don’t score another set of takeoffs I’ll most likely go with discount tires house brand (Pathfinder). Had a set on my old 01 and no complaints.

Does it seem to make a difference if the truck has 20" or 18" wheels? From what I've read online (take that for what it's worth) it seems that since the wheels are larger and less sidewall, tire companies are making the tires I guess softer so the ride quality improves, thus they don't last as long. Didn't know if I'd find a set of take of 18" wheels and get tires for them that would be better in the long run or not.

It does make sense that the tire companies would use a softer compound rubber on the low profile tires. A good share of what gives you the feeling of control is the flex in the sidewalls of the tall profile tires, and that flex just isn't there with the low profile tires. The softer compound would put a lot of the flex into the tread to provide the old high profiler sidewall driver feel.

The older trucks that got more miles out of their tires were on 15" or 16" wheels with high profile tires.

They all now a treadwear number on them. Performance tires usually are lower like 220 and higher mileage tires are like 560. Be aware on your next set.

I have a Jeep GC WJ...so not the same as the trucks mentioned. But I have had great luck with
General Grabber A/T2's... granted my tires are 16"...245/70/16 to be exact.
