I’m usually pretty good at identifying the creepy crawlers that are around my house, this one not so much. Partially looks like a grasshopper of some kind, partially makes me think of a cicada. Any ideas?

Hard to tell for sure from that pic but it kind of looks like a cicada to me. Harmless but noisy.

No antennae present on the demon bug, so I don't think it's a katydid of any kind. Either way, I haven't seen it since. Here's hoping one of the giant Carolina Mantis that hang around my house ate well.

if it gained entry into his ears, it is already comfortably resting in his brain...............

Not as open as the great outdoors, but no doubt the demon bug has plenty of room to stretch out up there.
