Looking at buying a 70 383 motor and 5 speed transmission out of a dump truck. Will this bell housing fit an a833 trans. What size clutch and flywheel would it have? Would any of this work with the 833?

More than likely a 361. I have a bell housing off a late 60's dump truck as well and it's nothing like a car one. Much bigger, meant to fit an extended crank kind of like the pre '62 cars. Hydraulic clutch fork on the passenger side. Can't remember if it was 11" or 12" flywheel though.

For whatever it's worth, that 5 speed is most likely NOT an overdrive transmission. The one's I've seen had a 1:1 Ratio 5th gear. Someone told me that an overdrive was optional in the heavy duty trucks. No idea it that is true or what years overdrive would have been available.

Back years ago, a local guy claimed he installed an industrial / heavy truck 413 engine and 5 speed transmission in a pick-up truck. I have no idea how many parts he had to swap or how much fabrication he performed. His Dad owned a salvage yard, so he had acres of parts available!

If that is actually a working 383/5sp in the truck. I would think the bell housing would have to be a 67/68 big block lightduty truck bell housing to make that combination work. Hard to find, desirable bell if it is. I've thought about replacing the np435 with a np540 in my truck if I came across one with a 4.05 2nd gear.

Or maybe someone put 361 crank in a 383 to make it work ?
