Can someone explain what the accumulator in a Torqueflite does?

When we change over to a manual valve body, we put a blocking rod behind the piston to stop it moving. If you were doing a case from scratch, could you just do away with the piston and bore in the case?

Unless I read the wrong sections, I didn't find much of an explanation in the Monroe book.

Thanks in advance

Cheers

Its just a hydraulic damper. Lessens the shock for smooth shifts. I would think you could do away with it. Please tell me you are making an SFI approved case!

Here's a thread I started a few years ago trying to understand what the accumulator does: https://board.moparts.org/ubbthread...me-to-fluid-flow-schematics-for-727.html

Yes. Many current race VB's effectively eliminate the accumulator by blocking all of the fluid passages to it.

A friend has asked me to do a billet A727 case for him. I wish I had the time to, but I don't see it happening any time soon. If I was to do a case for myself, it would be a 904 or Proflite type case anyway.

Rumour has it that A&A are doing a billet A727 SFI case, are they going to PRI this year? That should be pretty cool if it happens,
