The last line says "It can improve the performance" I'm guessing the design has a lot to do with it, if this is the case. I'll be logging scoop pressure next season, interested to know if it works.

Sure it is, just gotta hold the other variables constant, which is commonly done in drag racing.

Good luck with that thought.

Even in a highly "controlled" wind tunnel, they run multiple runs to find an average and account for the variables unknown or what that they can't control.

There is no way I would cut holes the backside of any hood scoop to lower the pressure around the carb tsk
I do run air cleaners now on all of my race motors with and without a scoop up That helps prevent the air flowing across the top of the carb with no air cleaner on from sucking fuel out of the top of the carb. up scope twocents

In another tjought ,
It seems some use filters some dont , i use a screen . Would a deflecter across / in front of carb intake help , stop air straight over carb ? Or could it introduce further turbulence ?

Only testing will tell.

Testing likely will show what the result might be, but it will NOT tell you why something is causing the result, so many just seem to pick one and go from there.

For the most part, I'm with "JCC" and his inputs here. Especially when it comes to 'why' a configuration 'works'. Some of us have dumb-luck when it comes down to what 'works'. There's a decent amount of 'engineering' that goes into any scoop that functions to it's capacity. As much as this subject seems to be beating a dead-horse I'm glad to see some evolution in thinking is happening.

I opened up the back of the scoop at the hood is really lifting and crushed the hood pin bracket and have bent the hood pins

I was amazing how high the hood bowed at the end of the quarter. About 141-142 mph

It is not enough to help the situation and I will need to do a different hood with a different scoop as the holes only partially helped
