There is a guy on the Facebook group for the 8HP trans, he installed the 8-spd trans behind the 318 in his 88 D150. The 8HP bolts right up to the Hemi/318/5.2/340/360/5.9 block. He used a flex plate from a GM 4L60, and drilled it to match the 8HP torque converter. Then he bought a custom harness from Sound German Automotive, he said it was a plug and play setup. The 8HP needs a signal from the TPS, tach signal for rpm, and a connection to the reverse switch. He said after some test driving the TCM learns the setup and everything worked great. He even said his D150 now gets 22mpg on the highway.

Awesome information
I joined a Facebook group and I’ll search him out

I’m running a low deck big block so I’m going to have to purchase the jvx adapter setup
But I’m highly motivated in this

That is very interesting.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZF_8HP_transmission

With “potential” 3.7 first gear and 0.64 overdrive maybe even 2.76 diff ratio could be used up to 1% grade hills on Interstate cruising.

Gotta take it on faith that

“ One of its main aims is to improve vehicle fuel economy, and it can achieve 12% saving compared to the ZF 6HP transmission and 14% versus modern 5-speed transmissions.”

as those internal trans gear friction reductions “boogle my brain”.

I suspect they are “wrapping in” fuel economy improvement due to lower engine rpm and wider throttle opening

With some diligent and patient FBM shopping, deals can be found to buy a used 8HP-70. I found one in Chicago for $700, but the seller never replied to me after I sent him an offer he accepted, so he lost out. Then two days later I was in central Indiana for work and searched FBM in my hotel room. Found a 8HP-70 complete with the torque converter, cooler hoses/tubes and complete driveshaft, came out of a 2016 Challenger with 50,000 miles on it, bought it for $400. Seller wasn't aware the 8HP would mount to any engine with the same bellhousing bolt pattern as a 6.7 Hemi. After I gave him the $400 I said I've heard of guys mounting the 8HP behind 318, 5.2, 360, 5.9, 340 engines. Then he said he should have hung onto the trans, heh, heh.
