Is it the length of the 68 and 69 B Body ignition switches the only thing different? Can the years be interchanged if not concerned about the length?

It's the outside diameter that's different.
They will not interchange

1969 is larger and is one year only

This , specifically the threaded part that goes thru the hole in the dash is a different size , you can't put a 69 switch into a 68 dash without making the hole in the dash frame , and subsequently the lower dash pad , larger. There is a difference in the wiring also , the 69 has 1 more wire than the 68 ? I've owned both years, parted a few, and played around with the switches at one point.

running up my post count some more .

I had a 69 that quit turning. Emptied the tumblers out and it soldiered on for years. Was kinda handy to be able to stick any key or a screwdriver in it and crank it up. Locks mean basically nothing in these cars anyway, a mere hindrance of a few seconds for anybody serious about taking it.

I want my fair share
