I have this Speedway pump on my Hemi and could use some help investigating what it’s original application might be for. The pump has 1,500 miles and whines like crazy, Speedway offers no warranty so I’d like to find it local so I can have a warranty. https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Aluminum-Power-Steering-Pumps-w-Reservoir,12707.html What I know Manufacturer: Maval Type: GM Type II Output: “low pressure”, 2GPM Shaft OD: 0.659” Outlet: 16mm-1.5 oring Inlet: 3/8” barb I believe it would have come on a common fwd GM product, but I need to be able to identify one as “low flow”. Thanks

according to the link, low flow is a ford application. you could check the part number against mavin's website. My guess is https://www.partsology.com/dnj-power-ste...1AaAuXmEALw_wcB without the resevior. http://www.mavalgear.com/index.php?optio...&Itemid=322 Grand Marquis. 1992 Mercury. Colony Park/Grand Marquis. 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998. w/8 Cyl Eng, but that is a guess without some further research or if you can pull a part number off of it. your link won't give one as far as I can tell.

Chevy Cavalier I believe, as well as various other GM. I have a type 2 on my car, it whines also. When you lower the flow and pressure for a Ford rack causes the problem based on my experience

I would think that doesn't matter, as I am using a rack pump from a 2000 durango in my 65 coronet with the box.
I think Goody is using the borgsomething or other box which may have some specific pump needs. Thanks Andrew. Yes, I have a Borgeson box, but it doesn't really require any different pressures, from what I have read. Perhaps I need the high flow pump and the low flow just doesn't cut it. [?] Chevy Cavalier I believe, as well as various other GM. I have a type 2 on my car, it whines also. When you lower the flow and pressure for a Ford rack causes the problem based on my experience Thanks, i'll check into that.

I have a type 2 on my car, it whines also. The PS pump whine is really common on Mercedes cars, too. Luckily, you don't hear it while driving. I'm interested in doing the serp belt conversion on the Imperial and would like to find a whine-free pump for it.

The whine is usually from sucking air into the fluid. Very few problems with that style pump when I worked at the dealer. What does the fluid resivoir look like? Is it clear or does it have small air bubbles in it? You can make up a modified cap and vacuum the system. This will draw the air out over a period of time. Doug I am thinking this may be part of the problem. It doesn’t look as clear as I’d like The reservoir fluid level is also lower than the high pressure line outlet. When these pumps are setup with an AN adapter and an AN 90° fitting, that line gets pretty high relative to the proper fluid level. Perhaps that isn’t helping with aeration. I like the idea of vacuum on the cap. I’ll need to think on a solution for that.

Riddle me this, Moparts. Problem: Pump has a constant whine under any load. No air present in the fluid, it's plenty full, low-mile pump. Finding: Reservoir Cap Not Vented. I gave in and ordered a new pump. Upon disassembly I found that despite there being a vent hole in the cap, the reservoir does not vent. That being said, I believe the fluid in my reservoir is only slightly entering the pump, or the pump is essentially having to suck for it's feed [bad]. This problem may be amplified since this style of pump is more of a side-feed from the reservoir, rather than a top feed [shown] I can't drive the car for a few days to find out if this is going to be helpful or not. Venting solution: I did notice that the two small holes on the underside of the cap [one shown] were not talking to the vent hole in the top. Very slight drilling opened them up to vent...perhaps I am on to something? What do you think? [video:youtube] https://youtu.be/ZD2a0gK08_Y[/video]
