I am wondering how much rain will fall in Death Valley and how deep the lake will get at Badwater Basin.

Yesterday’s estimation was 4 inches total rain will fall in Death Valley over 2 days
in comparison to “average” yearly rainfall of 2.3 inches.

Starting to rain here because of hurricane hillary and we need it, the forest service is making huge forest fires around here hopefully this will put em flat out of business for the year.

SoCal has a problem with mud and/or rock slides, as well as drainage...been that way forever.

In WA, some idiot homeless gal was arrested for setting fires, and said she was protesting her situation.
Been very smoky here - probably likewise in Kalispel - from a lot of fires, and this area has a LOT of trees.
So, whatever we can get for rain is quite welcome.

Im actually in thompson falls but we have had a pretty decent summer, very little smoke till the end of last week but we got quite a bit of rain yesterday and now it is blue sky again, well cloudy and blue but no smoke. Forest service is mad because they can't get the fire in paradise going again now for at least a couple weeks, they needed to burn a lot more acreage there to get more money in the budget next year.

Just since 2005 major hurricanes i rode out.
Katrina lost my took 2 years to rebuild ground up.
August 29th 2005 to wind and flood.
Rebuilt to better than Dade County to withstand Category 4 storm.
And also rasied house elevation above flood stages

Gusatv wind damages lost power long time

Lee hit west of us so some wind damages
Lost power long time.

Ida
August 29th about to be 2 year's in few days. Note same day as Katrina Aug 29th
Hit land stalled high wind gust 12 hours (almost 13)
Lost roof, siding, blew out building apart, fire place, ormal. Hurracane wind stuff.
Did not flood because house now much higher. No power 24 day's.
Some low life stole my new generator that could run whole home. So ran fridges, freezer, some lights on my old B&S 8hp cast iron 4000watt bought in 1992. Ran so much gas in it ran out and used a barrel of VP 110 with lead race gas.
Lots and lots of small damages. I had parts of eveything hittiing my fence, bric home, roof, Shutters are rated at Catagory 4 Storm tons of stuff hit them. 2 hours in street was a river, and after the 1st 2 hours of high wind gust wife says never AGAIN. After it finally passed she said she really though it was it.
Some houses totaled, some major damages, some not even a scratch. I think there were quite a bit of tornados
i don't think California was prepared for any topical storms, before or after one. Hope all our members are safe.

The story about a young Alexander Hamilton in the Virgin Island Hurricane is worth reading. Hamilton was given a privately raised scholarship for more schooling for his lifesaving swims, which brought him to New York City, and eventually manning a cannon with fellow student volunteers at the Battle of New York, where a tearful George Washington noticed he did not run away.

The story about the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane that hit the Florida Keys and the US Weather service employee at Key West that climbed a tree with the Barometer is worth a read.
