HP Pavillion P6774y (circa 2010 or so) desktop.

I was replacing the dedicated graphics card and this fell out.

It looks like it frames the inside of the four slot card panels.

It’s some kind of wafer thin, flimsy, shiny metal.

The only card I have installed is the GT 1030, which replaced an older card.

Just wondering what this is, what it’s for, and any problems if I just leave it out?

Thanks for any help! wave

Looks like a type of filler panel for the unused slots.

With the GT 1030 card installed, are the other slots open or closed off? If open, that would give dust a way to enter the case.

Personally, I think you're fine to leave it out.

Mike.

You da man! Thank you.

The three vacant slots are blocked with the metal panels.

I agree with your thinking.

My only concern was, if filler....why metal instead of something more benign?

That made me think there was some..l dunno....grounding, or some other issue I might be overlooking.

Your input much appreciated.

Those are bonding plates. They are there to ensure the cards are correctly grounded (bonded) to the chassis.
