sample quote

Stellantis NV reported a record $12.1 billion (10.9 billion euro) net profit, up 37% year-over-year for the first six months, on a best-ever $109 billion revenue (98.4 billion euro), a 12% increase from higher shipments. An 11% increase in adjusted operating income to a record $15.6 billion (14.1 billion euro) represented a 14.4% group-wide margin compared to 14.5% a year ago. Worldwide, inventory was at 1.37 million vehicles, up from 845,000 a year ago.
...snip...

North America supported the financial results with a 4% increase in adjusted operating income to a best yet $8.88 billion (8.03 billion euro) from higher net pricing and volume growth. That represented a 17.5% margin, which was down from 18.1% a year ago.

Wait, they'll have to lower prices eventually, they're trying to hold onto covid era profits which aint happening in this climate

Just saw a Ram truck ad that indicated essentially 10% off; whether it actually works out that way, though, I can't say.

Another issue is interest rates - they've slowed the real estate market, and I would think that apples to car loans.

Something has to give: manufacturers can't just keep dumping production on their dealerships if sales are down.

The dealerships HAVE to be screaming for them to start up the incentives again, I am actually surprised they let it get this bad. I see Nissan is offering 0% on rogues, so its starting with some manufacturers.

No sympathy from me whatsoever for the dealerships with a growing inventory because their greed has no limits. Yes, I know they have overhead, but unless you have a steel plate sewn into the back of your Fruit of the Looms, you're going to get it from them. They will find a way to charge you for anything everything they can possibly charge you for if you aren't careful. Aside from that, I rarely ever see a model of ANY vehicle that isn't fully loaded with options driving the price up.

My 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 had started to rust in the usual spots when I wanted to replace it about 8 years ago. After seeing how high prices went I decided to dump some money into it for bodywork & paint as well as mechanicals it needed. After spending about $6000 or so, it was 100% dependable & looked great again. Right before the Covid restrictions & vehicle shortages & out of curiosity, I went back to the original dealership that I purchased my truck from to look at another truck they had advertised.

It was 3 years old, had about 35,000 miles, priced about $30,000 which was much less than the overpriced new ones. Of course they asked if I had anything to trade, so I said it simply depends on what they will give me for it. Trucks of similar years & condition were listed online from $7500 to $12,500. Their own website that evaluates your trade in value told me mine was worth between $6500 & $10,000. The salesman had someone bring my truck to the shop to have it looked over.

When he came back to me with his "DEAL OF THE CENTURY THAT I'D BE A FOOL TO PASS ON" price of $1500 I literally laughed while sitting at his desk. laugh2 I said for $1500 I'd pull the 5.7 out of it & drop it into an old car I had at home before I let you have it. He played the typical game of running back & forth to a non existent sales manager gradually increasing the price to $4000. I said to him, "We're done here." & got up & left.

As for the truck I went to go see, it was a total POS. The salesman said they didn't get a chance to "detail it" yet & wanted me to be open minded about it. The truck was all scratched, the tires were bald, the bed was banged up like anvils were dropped in it & the interior was disgusting. There was bird dung on the dash & the console, food in the carpet & cup holders & boxes of trash in the back seat & the bed. It looked & smelled like a homeless band of crackheads lived in it. eyes

Yeah, I feel horrible that they have too many vehicles in stock....LOL laugh2

Does a USA Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram dealership also make 17 to 18% margin on the “average” new vehicle
in addition to the profit on the financing?

Love how your sample quotes cherry pick the bias you want to put forth.

Ford Motor Co. said Thursday it made $3.7 billion in net income in the first six months of the year, up from a loss of $2.4 billion in 2022. That included $1.9 billion in net income in the second quarter, nearly triple the results from the April-to-June quarter last year. As a result, the Dearborn, Michigan, automaker increased its full-year guidance by $2 billion in adjusted operating income, but it increased the timeline on its EV production goals and estimated losses on its EV business for 2023 would be $4.5 billion, up from $3 billion.

That came after General Motors Co. posted $4.9 billion in earnings, its best since 2010, prompting it to increase its earnings guidance by $1 billion.
snip

Mounting auto profits are quickly becoming a line of attack by UAW President Shawn Fain,
who calls the quarter of a trillion dollars in profit made by the three companies
between 2013 and 2022 "obscene."
More of those dollars, he says, should have gone into the pockets of workers.

Right?? How do you expect the public to get excited about your cars if your cars aren't exciting?

I'm sorry guys, but the Challenger is just butt ugly. Because I like a little bit of styling, I went with a Mustang GT.

The Challenger is like a fat girl that gives really good head. Yes, she's great at what she does, but otherwise, she's practically a truck and you really don't want your friends to catch you near her.

The Charger? They could have offered a 2-door variant for very little capital. They just flat-out refused.

Same thing with the Dart, the 200 and even the 300. All could have had coupe variants for very little money but the corporation is just being pig-headed.

And yet Honda, BMW, Hyundai, Toyota can all offer cute little coupes that people are buying and selling decently.

I think it all comes down to Chrysler just wants the profit margins of the big cars and trucks. They know they can't out-produce anybody anymore.
