Haven't walked in your shoes, but I would think for a few hundred dollars the peace of mind alone would be worth it to not "save a few hundred dollars. Good idea? Bad idea? Thoughts" and a good idea to spend it.

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

Bad idea, seriously.

I'll agree with this, too. I'd rather sell a spare part or even a car for the insurance premium before I take a chance with Murphy's Law.

i have owned my junker since 1970.
in the years since, i have had insurance on it for all but a few years.
in all those years, it hasn't seen the road for many of them. i have been hoping to get back on the road, but every time i think it may happen, some damn health issue crops up ! mad
this year, my wife is having memory problems, and i just spent 3 or 4 days in the hospital last week for heat exhaustion and severe dehydration ! [my own fault, or as my old man would have told me : "get a bag of quarters and back up to the a$$kickin' machine !" laugh2]

For what these cars are worth, a few hundred for insurance seems like a no-brainer for peace of mind. Why risk it?

If you're not driving them and are worrying about spending a few hundred bucks to protect your investment, maybe it's time to sell?

Of course your mileage will vary, but my friend with homeowners insurance had his non-insured classic in the garage. The car was stolen. The first things the homeowners insurance company (Travelers) did was deny coverage for the stolen car as their homeowners policy does not cover vehicles.

That was then and now it's more.

To my knowledge, no homeowner insurance companies cover cars. You need a car insurance policy for that.

Hagerty does

So does Grundy. I haven't driven my Challenger since 2015. It's only had comprehensive on it since that time. According to the representative I talked to, they don't want people adding and removing collision on a regular basis.(month to month) They prefer you make changes on a yearly basis.

How much do you really save dropping full coverage from a place like Hagerty? The prices are low enough it doesn't seem like it would make much difference.
