This was on my feed this morning - thought I'd share.
I'm curious about one of the names mentioned, too...

I'd read that before. Pretty interesting!

I've thought about bringing this up with a local nostalgia race we attend that says, and I quote: "No Go-go juice. They Didn't have nitrous in the '60's".

Yeah, about that....

Marvin Miller was popular in SoCal back then.

IIRC, nitrous has been used in IC engines since the Germans in WW2. In aircraft, it was called "Nitrix".

And - I'm a boomer, so I was there back in the day - there was nitrous on some SoCal street-racing cars in the late '70s.

I had a buddy who was experimenting with multiple plates in the late 70s. We thought he was crazy, I guess he was ahead of his time.

Lots of retired crew chiefs with stories starting to come out about it being used in NASCAR for qualifying back in the day. It sounds like it was pretty common for lesser funded teams using it to be able to "make the show".

Scott Shafiroff was the first person I heard about who was going pretty fast on spray back in the mid-'70s. This was either 1976 or 1977, but I was there for the night The Unknown Street Racer came to MIR.

There was a magazine article shortly before the event, but I can't figure out in what magazine. The pic shown in the link above came from it, but I can't tell anything other than it was written by Al Kirschenbaum, who I know was based out of NY.

I don't think Scott was I the '7s that night like Tod Mack inferred, but he gapped The Whoopee Car enough that I'm pretty sure he was well into the 8s... it wasn't even close.

Brad I was there for that Unknown Street racer show back in the good old days. Todd Mack had some great shows at Budds Creek.
Doug Hess was the first racer with nitrous that I knew of back then before the ban.
