All of the steering linkage on my Valiant are junk. I have decided to install a rack. I have bought Quartermax kit. Seems to be good stuff. It looks as simple as switching lower ball joints side to side and engineer from there. Any tips or input would be helpful. You guys have never "steered" me wrong yet.

But it's not. That approach is guaranteed to result in bad bumpsteer.

Consider a complete system from:

Bobs Profab: http://www.bobsprofab.com/

Edit: Just noticed 65 A body. I don't know if any of the above make anything for that.

I'd like to know what a Quartermax kit is.Who makes it,sources,prices. A friend did a Unisteer in a B-body that was a bumpsteer clusterf>>>>>.

The first thing you will need is a very much modified lower balljoint/control arm. They are too long by about twice what you lill need, and the location is all wrong. Notice mine is very short, and the end was welded back on upside down to obtain a height change and get away from the radius rod.
If you draw a line from the center of the rear wheelbase through the center of the lower front balljoint, that is what is known as Ackerman angle. That line extending out front on the wheel side of the joint is the point where you want your tie rod end to be so that the steering has the proper radious for inside and outside wheels in a turn. The length of the steering link will be the same as stock,s so be sure to measure that and modify the rack you buy to fit. Then you have to get the right length rack, which is dictated by the measurement you just took. I will see if I can find a photo to post.
If you look at the picture closely, you will notice the arm has been shortened to half its original length. It is also too far inboard for street driving, should be much closer to the disc brake rotor to be correct. My setup scrubs going around corners because the angle change is zero, rather than keeping up with the turn radius of the car. This doesn't affect straightline performance, and has actually saved the car when it got crossed up at speed because the front tires were still parallel in a skid, reducing front end scrub greatly and the tendency to switch ends very easily

To thoroughly understand what you are undertaking to convert to a rack, check out the old Mopar DirectConnection chassis/performance books for a full rundown on bumpsteer and related front suspension issues.

i did my own k member R/D, not many options at that time(2004). I ended up buying the iam talking the Dareuglystuff.. We did some cuts here and there, correct geometry, order a a custom coilover conversion, etc.
So far the car as been only in the 10.00's at 130mph with no problems at all, susp was set up with 1/16 toe in. 10* + caster and O Camber.
At that time i was using a 400hp motor. I dont think iam going to be using that susp. anymore, with my new 449 indy, i know it's working with the right changes, but i don't want to take any chances with all that has been said. Right now iam crossing my fingers and waiting for Bondobob's new ultralight K/M susp. for my 65 valiant.
