i bought a rear keystone bumper from roseville parts, i also bought the keystone bumper guards from them, well i think they came from keystone. the bumper fits great but the guards i can't get them to fit right, i have tried shimming, adjusting, i just cant find a happy spot for them. i'm talking about the gap at the top against the bumper and the distance between valance and lower part of guard, see pictures. now i know your gonna ask so yes i have them on the correct sides. has anybody else had this problem? or have you used another brand and had good results with those? if so who makes them? and yes i know a set of original would probably be better, i just dont want to deal with chrome shops in 2023, thanks.

I see no easy fix short of switching those guards out for an OEM set and hope they fit better, or grinding on those until the profiles match up to the bumper.

Btw, I rebuilt an old Mustang coupe many years ago and bought repo parts for most of it. There was only a few parts that actually fit and looked like the original parts did. I had to slot holes and make alterations to things I did not want to to get the car back together. It was my first resto rodeo so I was naïve and assumed the parts I was buying from the big fancy catalog would be fine. Even the official licensed by Ford parts were not all that great to be honest. After doing that I learned why people pay so much more for OEM parts, or have their original parts restored instead of replacing them.

yes i considered making these fit better but then i have to deal with the chroming bs, im hoping somebody can clue me in as to which after market ones fit the best. i might just have to order some from a couple different places and hope for the best and then send back the ones that dont fit properly. im not even sure if there is more than one outfit making them these days.

I had the same issue with one of my original bumper guards. I figured out the mounting bracket was not welded in the right spot….after I had it rechromed. I ended up going with OER repops from Classic industries and they fit well for me.

SV - yeah those fit like crap. I would not let them stay as is - I'd be searching for a solution or grinding them til they fit, then send them out to a re-chromer, or paint the edges after you are done contouring them.

I'm not familiar with those, but if they're like a '68-'69 Charger, try tweaking the mounting bracket to close up that upper gap.
Would seem to entail either opening or closing the angle of bracket vs guard, depending on how/where the bracket mounts.
Apply any & all persuasion to the bracket, not the guard, if possible, unless you can soft-jaw the guard.

I'm gonna try a set of the OER ones, if those dont fit better i will grind and weld a set into submission until they do and then have them rechromed, or maybe find a set of factory ones.
