They had a factory plug in the truck blocks.
Personally, I would tap the hole and put a bolt in it with sealant.

I’m lazy, I always tapped a header bolt in to the hole after applying RTV.
When I say tapped, I mean with a hammer, not threaded.
Easy in, easy out.

A piece of metal rod the right diameter could just be tapped into the hole with a hammer, it's something like 5/16th or 3/8th in diameter. Measuring the diameter of the dipstick tube will let you know. A little RTV can be applied if you choose to.
That way you can knock it out later if needed, kinda like knocking out a broken off dipstick tube.

1/8 NPT tap and plug. Dont think I even had to touch it with a drill.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

1/8 NPT tap and plug. Dont think I even had to touch it with a drill. The problem with tapping threads into it is that you use the factory style press in oil dipstick tube ever again you would be worrying about it leaking oil from the hole. Unless you barely tap threads into it. It sounded like he wanted the option of possibly using the hole with a factory dipstick tube again in the future. To me a piece of rod knocked into the hole would be far easier to do than dealing with tapping threads into the hole. Using a truck pan with the rear sump means that the oil dipstick tube is mounted to the side of the oil pan rather than going into the pan rail of the block, which is why he want to plug the hole (at least for now).
Kayse can't keep up at all now. lol

1/8 npt tap fits without drilling, just tap 1/4 down , dipstick will later fit in, cleanest way i have seen, done many times
all parts are sold as is, all parts are considered used no warranties or returns paypal/check/money order, shipping is from zip 02891, buyer pays paypal fees 24% IRS 1099A plus 3% of part price, check/money order preferred site is not monitored 24/7 there might be a delay in response

Fellas, I'm putting a truck pan on a 440 and its dipstick goes into a fitting on the side of the pan. So what is the preferred way to plug the stock hole. i don't want to modify the hole so as to be able to reuse it if the engine finds its way into a car in the future. I repro the factory plug: https://arengineering.com/products/plug-dipstick

It is a slight press fit, just like the factory plug

Pretty big mark up on those! Looks similar to Mopar Performance / Direct Connection pricing!
